661045 2008-04-28 11:24:00 Hi,
I have just bought a HP dv6747TX pavilion laptop. It costs $1300 from Noel Leeming after $200 Tradein on a worthless computer and $100 Cashback. (The tradein offer closes tomorrow though).
I think this computer is good for the price, but I don't recommend it for watching DVDs, as they appear blurred to me. It does quite a good job with my photo collection.

661046 2008-04-28 11:31:00 I have the same laptop, I'm well impressed by DVD playback. Metla (12)
661047 2008-04-28 11:36:00 That's funny.
DVD playback is far superior on my old Scoop computer with a Philips 107S CRT monitor.
I wonder why you get good results and I don't?

661048 2008-04-28 12:42:00 May have something to do with the superior display abilities of CRT technology.....

The laptop doesn't have the worlds greatest screen, and I'm probably acclimatised to DVD playback on an LCD, Some people do focus on different things when viewing, and it can be noticeable for someone who is used to a CRT.

That aside, I removed every bit of HP branded software I could find, including the spyware infested games package they installed, The vile nortons, The retarded trial version of Office, Removed a good 30 to 40 items from the system startup, and bumped the ram upto 2gb, In factory trim they really are a pile of crap.

661049 2008-04-28 15:11:00 Retarded version of Office = MS Works?

That was the first thing I took off, even before Norton. By God Works is ugly.

661050 2008-04-28 20:29:00 Nah, Shes the full version of Office, She just stops working after a month, So if you start using it and don't realise or intend to buy it then you lose access to all your crap after a month.

Not the end of the world, but can be a hassle for some people, especially as outlook is the default email clinet.

I consider it a shady move, and not in the interest of the customer, MS do well enough without that crap.

661051 2008-04-28 21:24:00 The question, as I see it is thus:

What do people think of the quality of sound of laptops?

.......and I say as good as two paper cups and a wet string.

I keep an IBM Stinkpad to hold the door to my room open..for that it is real good.

Wow! I have just been nattering about MSWorks on World Forums. Best program (or nearly so) I have ever used the last 12 years. Used daily too. Far better than Office for most people. Quicker - easier - convenient. I love showing staff in computer shops how I can design a perfectly good database using MSWorks in about 30 seconds.
But I will admit the versions after 4.5 have gone daft.
Earlier ones were far superior.

661053 2008-04-28 23:26:00 As far as my experience with sound on laptops goes, they are pretty bad. Just plug in a pair of cans, or these (www.thinkgeek.com), and you'll be set. ubergeek85 (131)
661054 2008-04-28 23:29:00 Back to DVD's, I just threw in a movie, and to be perfectly honest, The quality can't be faulted (imo anyway) its sharp, detailed, full of colour.....Looks good. Metla (12)
