660916 2008-04-29 04:32:00 the skull popped up menacingly in the middle of the screen, not this one but similar for a real quick split-second

www.imagef1.net.nz

then this in the banner

www.imagef1.net.nz

The problem was refreshing the page never brought it back, the guy I spoke to said it was set to an ultra low display probability.

Might have over re-acted but it was particularly deviant of them in the first place (rather like what a virus might do)

660917 2008-05-03 01:53:00 lol yeah, I just got that ad too. the skull flashes in center of screen which is pretty scary, i thought it was some virus finally hitting me.

turns out it is an ad for Sarah Connor Chronicles (tvnz.co.nz) , got that by clicking the banner that said something like "this is your computer. I am getting very tired with being user-friendly, soon we computers will have the ability to destroy all human life!".

660918 2008-05-03 02:07:00 I got that the other day, right from the start I knew it was an ad... The banner ad is right where all the other banner ads are.

I have to say it... LOL at changing bank login details and rebuilding a PC due to this ad  :clap

660919 2008-05-04 01:08:00 Well obvious it was advertising, people creating ads surely have guidelines to prevent mass confusion, especially of the "malicious" kind. Hang on, that's what advertising is all about...

I've been watching the Sarah Connor Chronicles since it aired in the States, Summer Glau is hot.

Yes the thing was that when i first encountered it, you could not click the banner and refreshing the page did not bring the advert back as one would normally expect. I spoke to a couple other experienced IT people and they both agreed that it was nefarious, and your first impression was that it was also a virus...

660923 2008-05-05 00:57:00 The other thing is, there is enough viruses and hoax viruses created without this sh1t as well.
This should not be allowed, yes it is funny to look back on it and laugh, but this has been a time waisting exercise. How many times do we frown upon hoax email virus warnings etc that ask the user top send to as many people as possible which in the end is waisting network resources. In my opinion this advertising campaign should be treated with the same contempt.
