660201 2008-04-19 09:35:00 Meat salad:
Take five freshly roasted leaves of steak, lightly garnish with fried eggs. drizzle with tomato sauce extra non-virgin. Sprinkle with grilled venison sausages. Serve accompanied with a large vessel filled with chilled effervescent amber fluid. Serves one (for ten minutes), repeat as required.
For Vegetarian salad - ensure the steak came from a vegetarian cow.

660202 2008-04-19 10:33:00 Probably it goes back to when we were cavemen hunting. Men needed most of the meat for energy and proteins as they hunt pretty much everyday, while cavewomen just lazed around collecting berries and wait for the mammoth to come home. Excellent!

You must be an anthropolgist!

But I like Metla's suggestion... meat salad. Fantastic green salads can be enhanced with smoked chicken and with the right dressing... mmmmm!

Also a fantastic meal or starter is a warm Vietnamese lamb salad, made with finely sliced bbq'd loin of lamb and various typical asian vegetables, with a drizzle of peanut dressing.

Yep Meat Salad is good, although this (www.recipeland.com) isn't the variation I normally eat, it does look interesting, but I thought i'd put it here in honour of our strangely quiet token Norwegian

Anyway i do tend to get salads at a BBQ although sometimes they look a bit withered as some numb nuts will put the salad next to the grill

660204 2008-04-19 20:09:00 I am sure some of us can make meat salads and very nice too.
The point was there is a tendency for men to avoid salads where possible.

If you like salads and are a chap, try to note if your wrist is limp.

Ok, husband will eat salad if I make one for dinner. His wrists are very solid.

Its usually when we have stacks of stuff from the garden though, and yep, it could be called a meat salad too.

Like smoked chicken on the leaves and tomatoes, with crispy noodles.

At BBQs I only make a small amount.

We have some friends here that have BBQs quite often. They seem to have it down to a fine art.
There is always onions and mushrooms done on the BBQ, every kind of meat you can think of, various bread and the one or two salad bowls. One of them will be potato salad. Not much lettuce in sight at all.

660207 2008-04-19 22:31:00 Recently I was at a wine club BBQ, where various members provide salads etc. As we worked our way around the buffet table, several people (both genders)commented on the range of delicious salads that none included lettuce. That would have been the norm a couple of years ago.

Nothing wrong with a good lettuce salad on occasions..(especially salads like chicken caesar) the firm wristed, well balanced males couldn't give a toss about being seen enjoying it.

Cheers,
Marnie

660208 2008-04-19 23:00:00 At a street BBQ a while back about half were asked to bring deserts and half salads. It was BYO meat.

90% of the meat got cleaned up along with 100% of the deserts and maybe 20% at a push of the salads.

I tend to leave the green leaved muck for the rabbits to eat. I am definitely NOT a salad person of any type of salad but give me a stack of meat of any7 type and I am happy. Eggs and chips with that no problem.

Paleoanthropology suits this subject better . But yeah, it's something I'm very into . Would like to make a career out of it, but something tells me I can't make much money out of extinct monkeys . :(
