| 661798 | 2010-02-13 16:57:00 | Ya got a favorite guitar or bass? I find that since I got the Ibanez SR500, that my Fender P-bass is all washed up. Strange that I never realized how crippled that P-Bass was until I get this new one with the active electronics in it. Right now I have a new sense of enthusiasm and challenge to playing again after sorta lying fallow for a bunch of years. Don't tell my wife - but YOU are responsible for the cash outlay since you kinda sparked me to get re-invested in playing again. I blame you! Now I actually dislike the Fender a lot and wonder what had me so fooled into thinking my bass playing was so bad. It's the quality of the instrument and I guess the amp too that makes a lot of difference. If something's being sold on a name and anecdotal evidence, then I think Fender is prolly at some sort of tipping point in popularity - at least against the P verses the SD bass. Funny is that I paid the same - or close to it - amount of money for each, although the P-Bass was with less-inflated 1989 dollars. It seems to me that if Fender doesn't get it up and running and add some better technology to their line ---- and with the exception of their fine Tele's and high-$$ guitars --- that they will lose the mid-to-lower end of the market. |

| 661799 | 2010-02-13 22:35:00 | For guitar, my fave would have to be Takamine GX200, it's quite rare and I only have one out of chance really. Takamine made a run of electric guitars in the 80s (about 2000 I believe) and they didn't do that well at all due to marketing wasn't done etc Anyway they have somewhat become bit of a sought after guitar as they are medium weight, great tone for any type of music, neck through solid body. After that would probably be a higher end Jackson. For bass I am truly surprised by the LTD, I only got a B-50 but its does very well, in fact I think it maybe my new fave. In fact I have played very few basses so dont really have too much to go off. Have played a few customized basses but they were too specific for me to enjoy playing. |

| 661800 | 2010-02-14 04:56:00 | Perhaps the only 6-string regular guitar I played and really REALLY enjoyed was a Mosrite "Venture's Model" that was made in the US - not Japan as they later were . It was magical and played itself - almost! The only guitar I can compare it to now is this new bass . I just got back from a 7-hour jam with just a bunch of old guys (JABOOG - for cuteness) and we ran through a lot of stuff I haven't thought about for years . Tried the P-Bass --- and put it back in the bag and just stuck with the SR500 . I'm an old surf rocker and it was fun to get it on with people who liked it too . |
