799915 2009-08-10 04:18:00 Hi,

Ive just gotten an old duel P3 900 Proliant server and External RAID array setup.
It was wiped before I got it and Im wanting to get it up and going.

What options do I have? (I thought about installing WHS but the spec wont allow it and its only got a CD Rom)

Any tips for someone going at this for their first time...?

Kubuntu? maybe. was thinking about a small file server. Would there be any issues with the raid setup?

Are there any handy beginners guides to setting up Proliant ml380's or kubuntu installs that someone can put me onto?

799919 2009-08-10 06:22:00 I'd recommend you take a look at SME Server (http://www.smeserver.org/) - it's a very easy to use, simple server distribution, with the primary UI being a very nice web interface.

It's primarily targeted at people who haven't set up or run a server before, and want something easy to use, but still reasonably powerful.

I would highly recommend that also, its an excellent server distro

Either that, or FreeNAS depending on your needs. Both can be customised and can be accessed easily via the WebUI.
