799503	2009-08-09 02:14:00	I didn't do my homework before buying a new Dell with Vista installed. I Didn't give a thought to the fact Vista might not run some of my most important apps. eg. MS money99, MyHearitage etc. Vista has to go, it seems. I still have the old comp. with XP 3 installed and the XP disks and sp2. disks which were pre-installed by Dell. What to do? Dump Vista and install XP, assuming I can use my disks, or get someone to transfer it from the old m/c. Wait for Win7 (October I think) which as I understand is to be made free, or at least cheap as an upgrade from Vista? Can someone confirm that Money and MyHearitage will run on Win7? 799504	2009-08-09 02:23:00	Well you probably cant install XP if it was from another PC. It may look for the same hardware (which probably isnt the same as the one youre on now). And you cant transfer it from another PC (if the programs are installed already) to another PC (it'll probably crash). And the programs wont work You could probably install Win7 but it wont be free. Unless you were a tester. The upgrade from vista to Win7 maybe cheaper, depending on what version of Vista you've got. Dont have Money or the other program, or use the Rc version of Win7	Speedy Gonzales (78)
799505	2009-08-09 02:28:00	Can you run them in compatibility mode in Vista? There should be a version of My heritage for Vista it's not that old a program and it's free to download and use. When did you buy the laptop after June this year?	gary67 (56)
799506	2009-08-09 02:28:00	Have you tried compatibility mode? Right Click installer>properties>compatibility>XP with SP3/2 You cannot transfer programs to another OS. When did you buy this dell PC. If you bought it after July 1st you can get W7 free. And Windows 7 has XP Mode, which is like a Virtual XP machine running on W7 meaning both your programs will almost definetely work fine in W7 in XP Mode. W7 will most probably be a cheap upgrade from Vista. If you're desperate and Money and MyHeritage does not work in compatibility mode theny you could install the RC version of W7 and use it until its cheap to upgrade or free, then upgrade to RTM. 799508	2009-08-09 05:20:00	When did you buy this dell PC. If you bought it after July 1st you can get W7 free. Be very careful giving out advice like that - NOT all PC's laptops / Versions of Vista sold from 1st July are eligible to upgrade to Windows 7. The supplier has to offer this option - its NOT by default.	wainuitech (129)

Thanks for any input. Don't see why it would run in Windows 7 if it didn't work in Vista, I'd upgrade the Apps, it's not exactly like 99 was yesterday. However other ways to get the best of both worlds as stated elsewhere, and you could always have a VM with XP on it I'd have thought.	Twelvevolts (5457)
