663422 2008-04-30 08:23:00 Yes, yes we do. But when we give all that power to him, he's a different man.

Or as Labour has proved, continued on with their own agenda's!

Governments need to be accountable for their election promises......

663423 2008-04-30 08:24:00 Mite I deduce Greg that in fact you are one of these people on a benefit or have family which are perfectly happy ripping off hardworking, taxpaying New Zealanders?? You dont have a hidden family down in your cellar do you? Im sure you can come up with a good excuse if you do.....

Veale

Yes Vile. You 'mite' deduce that. My parents, in their 70's are on a state funded pension. After a lifetime of paying taxes they're entitled to a bit of a thankyou from Government. It's hardly called a rip-off.

I'd like to suggest to you to go and .... y......f before you sprout any more retarded dribble.

663425 2008-04-30 08:32:00 Greg for guv!

Get serious!

Its the liberal attitude of Greg's that has allowed the DPB solo mum's (excluding separated\abused of course) to flourish in this country.

663427 2008-04-30 09:07:00 Heh heh :)

Sol... I'm a humanitarian. I believe that every person on the planet has a right to food and shelter, whether they've worked for it or not.

I also believe, and this ain't a paradox, that every person has the requirement to work to eat.

However, there are certain circumstances where the infirm or the incapable can't work to feed themselves. That's where the rest of society comes in to lend a hand.

Our small country CAN afford to do its share to help those people who struggle to help themselves. This is what makes NZ'ers and other socially inclined countries wonderful places to live in.

If you object to paying a very small proprortion of your taxed money to assist those in need, then go live in the hills and grow your own food and Internet and build your own infrastructure to deal with your waste and make your own vehicles and pay for your own policing system and elect yourself as president etc etc etc etc ad infinitum.

yes good point and i agree to an extent, however, controls for too long have been lax and it isnt just my taxable income that helps these people, its the tax on everything else included. in our good nature we have bred a % of the populace to dependants.....and its growing!, while the work force dwindles and all other market expenditure increases.....

Too many of these dependants atre not taking responsibility for themselves..
just my 2 cents

Exactly. But many on beneficiaries don't, not that they can't, they just won't. I was told of a bastard basically exploiting $3000 of student allowance per year for the last three years by signing up for a university cost but only sporadically attending so he doesn't get kicked out.

And there are also people on beneficiaries who exploit our generosity by breeding carelessly. Having multiple children when you're on benefit is never a good plan.

663430 2008-04-30 11:52:00 "If there ain't no river, there ain't no work for a bridge builder".

Then quit lookin' fer bridges to build and go find work that's needed by folk.

Plenty of it out there, unemployment is at its lowest for many years!

663431 2008-04-30 12:00:00 WE do. WE the TAXPAYERS do. We spend hundreds of millions of dollars each year to band-aid all the damages caused by cigarettes and alcohol.

No you don't, the profit collected by the government on tobacco is many many times more then the cost of treating smoking related illness, Smokers are subsiding the health care of non-smokers.
