663413 2008-04-30 07:40:00 LOL, Deane, you are such a bleeding heart.......obvious research for me was the fag packet on the table.....the family poverty obviously doesn't reach the cigarette quota.

Why dont you tell us how it is the NZ taxpayers duty to support her smoking habit when she has do go without a meal to feed her kids.

Liberals, great ideas, but only when everyone contributes!

Excuse for me asking this but have you asked yourself where the government will get a replacement income in the event everyone gave up smoking and therefore loss of tax on tobacco products. If everyone gave up alcohol products I would think that will be another major hit in income for the government.

I may as well take the debate a step further and get to work via horse and cart. This will have the benefit of reducing deaths on the road but I would suggest that if I set off from say Tauranga being a fairly major port in NZ with a horse towing a load of bananas it may be some time before the produce is actually available at a place near you. Added benefit is no user charges and no petrol tax.

Possibly we should just educate people really early in life as to parenting skills and other things. I have more I could put across as a debate rather than than an arguement.

Yet they spending millions advertising how we should give it up? Anyway, havent they had surpluses for the last how many years.....?

I reckon we need an audit on government spending too.....

I always get the feeling that the treasury, safe guards its tax income as if its their personal spending....when was the last time you heard of the government being frugal with its spending?

Meh....this is a very frustrating topic for me......MP free world tours, new luxury cars, late night pay rises, unvoted list MP's with their own unpopular agenda's.....!!!

And we thought MP's were voted for by the people for the peoples services....huh?!

Ah, i cant take it anymore......, where's the alcohol and cigarette's?

When someone gets cancer from smoking and goes to the public health board, who do you think pays for his/her colossal treatment?

When someone causes major traffic crashes, kills someone out of drunken madness, damages public properties....who do you think pay for the police, clean ups and repairs?

WE do. WE the TAXPAYERS do. We spend hundreds of millions of dollars each year to band-aid all the damages caused by cigarettes and alcohol.

You're not alone!
I'd like to see the guv completely thrown out, everyone fired then a rebuild. If they can impose restructures on business why can't the public restructure them (besides having to wait years to vote)?

We need a joe bloggs who isnt a sell out, someone with a back bone yet with manners.....

Is there such a person?

Yes, yes we do. But when we give all that power to him, he's a different man.
