663310 2008-04-28 23:57:00 My wife, a teacher, deserves every single penny she earns. With all the cr*p they have in the schools these days, every single teacher is vastly underpaid.

I agree totally, and was being difficult. As is my want.

My GF's dad is a senior teacher, and works really hard, for not nearly as much money as he could get privately.

Balls mate. Teachers are quite well paid. Definitly above the country's average wage. They work just like every other industry worker does. If they don't like it... get into something else. A teaching degree or diploma can get you into a good range of proffessions.

(no insult intended - I studied at Ak uni for my B.ed degree, but gave it up half way).

I wonder whether any other job has the same cr*p - in fact, I disagree with you totally, show me any other job where somebody else can physically assault you and not be fired but get a "talking to" - plus where your day does not end when you exit your workplace, but have to mark/prepare/whatever for another 3-4 hrs .

Bollocks, pure bollocks

Ouch! that's rough. I blame the government not the teachers. From talking to people at work I would say that there are a LOT of well paid jobs (60k pa+) in this country right now that wouldn't support a family of 4 without the help of a 2nd income.
