662832 2008-04-28 02:48:00 Well count me in the 10% (or 50%) that is thinking of leaving. Why would I want to stay in NZ? I can think of many reasons why I should leave but not many as to why I should stay. Now we have sold our house it is very very tempting...... andrew93 (249)

You are one of the lucky ones who have managed to sell their house, and cashed up, which makes leaving very easy. I know of many who are trying to sell at the moment, but not many people are interested in buying at the moment. They say that the buyers are waiting for the prices to come down a lot, and many buyers now can't get mortgages.

Tell me about it. It is considerably worse than the real estate profession (there's an oxymoron) would have you believe. We are in for some tough times and while the food prices and interest rates are high, there won't be any relief any time soon.

We were only selling to buy another house but due to the ineptitude of the staff at a Trust that are guardians for other assets, who shall remain nameless, the twits didn't allow us a 24 hour extension to go unconditional on the house we wanted to buy, and that very night we sold our house unconditionally! Now we might do to everyone else, exactly what our (potential) buyers did to us - we will invite them to partake in a s*** sandwich, or wait 6 months, or both! We are happy to rent until we make up our minds. No rates, no house insurance, no maintenance, no ties. Perfect.

You wouldn't believe the number of people that came through and said "Yep, yes, perfect, love it, great location, great presentation, ticks all the boxes, exactly what we want and have been looking for, but we will wait and see what the market does". You can only hear that half a dozen times before you start pulling your hair out......we had one couple come through that had looked at 50 houses in 6 months. Our house ticked every single one of their requirements (including a couple of oddball requests) but they still wanted to think about it. It is a really soggy real estate market. We didn't quite get the price we wanted but we are still happy, all things considered.
