662643 2008-04-26 07:01:00 You are so right Joe,we should learn from youse how to (USA) cock things up professionally.
I take it you think the big stick is working in Iraq?

Just remember that I am an observer here...I don't side with any particular group or society...but yes.....the big stick used to work...but then someone decided to call the bluff and it was all outta the bag by then.

I was being rhetorical, of course, and don't mean to say that might makes right...but as you well know...that's the way military and political men seem to find as the greatest deterrent.

662644 2008-04-26 07:39:00 The recent price jump in US oil/fuel prices is due to the decline in the value of the US dollar, which in turn is caused by events such as the recent property crash. The fuel prices haven't risen as much when priced in euros.

Other background contributing factors are the rising consumption of oil in developing economies, the instability in oil-producing countries and the declining global oil reserves. The US is also deeply in debt. US fuel prices will get lower when the US dollar appreciates though, but the other background causes will always be there.

662645 2008-04-26 08:45:00 As long as the Poms are whining about you, you must be doing something right. We are unfortunately crippled with a few too many Poms to the acre here (i.e. >0) Should you need some, please feel free to come grab a few.

662647 2008-04-26 10:54:00 . . . nah . . . not twisting in the wind here . . . I expect it to get even much worse .

We just got a news flash that the gas prices are exceeding $5 . 00 a US gallon in some places in California . . and that's sure to trickle down to the rest of the union .

That's $1 . 68 NZD/L .

It's gonna rain all over everyone .

Mexico has much cheaper fuel and there are lines of US citizens who goto Mexico and fuel up and return daily .

Our milk is $4 . 96/gallon . . . that's about $6 . 35/3 . 79L or $1 . 65/L . Milk and gasoline seem to run in about the same price range historically .

Bread is $4 . 00USD or $5 . 12NZD for a 0 . 45kg loaf . . . this is cheap bread .

Rents are in the $1800 . 00 USD or $2300 . 00 NZD/month

House payments are about $2500 . 00 USD or $3200 . 00 NZD plus property taxes . Those are about medium/local prices . . . and are depressed prices too .

Don't forget to add in utilities and maintenance .

My last working weekly wage got me about $1,000 . 00 USD or $1280 . 25 NZD .

Your wage is a lot higher then the average wage we get here . If you earn over $60k in NZ, you are considered a high income earner, and pay higher taxes on those amounts amounts over $60k .

Also your milk is slightly less than we pay, even theough we produce a lot of the worlds milk, and most of the worlds cheese . Supermarkets in NZ are considering importing milk, because they can buy it cheaper offshore, which is a huge waste of energy importing and exporting the same product . However we also do this with the oil that NZ produces .

I would say on average, USAers have a higher level of disposable income .

Diesel = 17 '' '' ''
Brake Fluid = 75 '' '' pint .
Spark Plug = 75 '' each .

662650 2008-04-27 04:52:00 It's getting pretty bad here . . . we are paying $1 . 03/L (NZD/Litre or about $3 . 90USD/US gallon) right now . . . and the pre-Summer/vacation season is just starting when they rake us over worse than normal .

How's it going there?

All your pumps in the US on prepay these days?? They all are here in South Auckland . . I only use Mobil now as they have EFPOS at the pump . The rest want you to que up behind the coffee and grovcery lot . .

I know some people who will drive into a service station, and expect service eg . someone to come out and pump the gas for them . They wil honk their horn if they don't get service . If noone comes out after 3 minutes, they will go to another station .

What annoys me about some service stations (mobil in particular), from my experience is they often have 2 or 3 people in the store, but no one of the forecourt . The people in the store are often doing store stuff like refilling the coffee machine etc . Instead of someone coming out to help . You then have to then go into the store wait in line for the single checkout opertor, to ask them to 'unlock' the pump, before you can then go back out and fill up . You then have to go back in, wait in line and pay . It is just a joke . I don't blame the people who work at the station, as they just follow the rules . These international petrol companies are creaming NZers, and you don't see many of them giving back to the community, like they used to .

The small locally owned ones however do usually have someone who comes out to help, so these are the best ones to go to .

662652 2008-04-27 05:39:00 I have a very old friend from '68 who has always owned gas stations in LA, Orange County (Anaheim, Costa Mesa . . etc) and has now owned one in Hemet . . . I had a pix posted a while ago in his station . . .

Anyway . . . he has a profit margin of about -3¢/gallon . That's MINUS 3 cents a gallon . . a loss . He has to make the lossage up with candy, cigarettes and milk and other convenience store items .

So it's not the dealers who are raking in the $$ .

So far I can handle the higher costs . . but as I am on a fixed retirement income and anything I make in excess of that amount is 50% taxed, I make ends meet . . . but just meet so far .

The only reason why I posted this particular item is that I want NZ to see . . . even though there are naysayers . . . that the US is at the cusp of collapse . . er . . . financially because of the energy shortage and high prices .

Another friend thinks there might be some sortta war going on that is just over fuel . . and I am not talking about George's War and his world domination scheme .

There's a much more sinister plot afoot methinks .

I betcha that when everyone's become equal and starving and living in darkness . . . then things will relax a little and there will be plenty of everything . . . for the elites but not for the servant class .

I have other ideas . . . I know that seem to wrinkle the noses of some here on F1 . . . but I hear a pale horse .
