800290 2009-09-08 22:30:00 hello there wratterus i had ur same problem exactly with ie on adobe... but i cant understand this why on other pcs that got sp3 windows xp home edition with all updates like the one i had problem but wasnt proffesional! i dunno but ie 8 works fine on that pc... on this pc that im using had to roll back to ie 7 and it is ok... when i went back to ie it came back..:S did u experience this problem only on yr pc ? orelse did you find a pc with ie 8 and it works fine with adobe flash player add on? hope that u reply back soon and thanks a lot:) cheers...

Hi there, welcome to PressF1. Yes I did find if I went back to IE7 it would work fine, but when IE8 was reinstalled the problem returned. I did try running IE with no addons, same issue. I will post if I find a resolution for it, I had another PC just yesterday with the same issue.

The annoying thing about it is Adobe DLM installed no hassles on 99% of PCs, it's just the occasional one that has problems. :(

800291 2009-09-12 00:51:00 Greetings to all in NZ from the far North !

This problem "Adobe DLM ActiveX causing Internet Explorer to freeze" and another problem in connection with "Microsoftware-with-problems" Windows update just took, i guess, around 30 hours out of my life, 2 days stiff working to get things to run properly. Well.... as good as it gets.....

I think I "shot" this one.... ("Adobe DLM ActiveX causing Internet Explorer to freeze")
On my computer experiments showed that it were not associated with IE8 as such but more what happened to IE8 when applying "Microsoftware-with-problems" Windows XP Service Pack 3.
Applying the Service Pack alters the security - apparently......

What I had to do to get things to work ( this page : get.adobe.com , plus click "agree and install now" ) to (re-)install Flashplayer were to alter the security zone settings in IE8 and set one item to "custom". My O.S. is not "english" language so i'll have to explain rather than instruct (I'll translate to the best of my ability).
First go to IE8 menu "functions" , then "internet settings" , then "tab" "security" , then "internet" & click "user defined level" , then in security settings for "internet zone" scroll down to "Active objects and plugins" , then the second item concerning "Active objects and plugins" which should be called something like "automatic request regarding activeX objects - set that one to ACTIVE/ACTIVATION (that would be just above the "Binary & script behaviour").
This should alter the behaviour of the Adobe page , it will nolonger display the "ActiveX" "bar" above but will then simply "popup" and ask you if you want to install the "Adobe DLM" ActiveX object , say yes and things should go smoothly (The Flashplayer should install without a problem).

Hopes my description helps a lot of you "Down under" and over in N.Z. as well !!!

Kind greetings

FIAT LUX (en.wikipedia.org) !!!

P.S.
There might be one of the other "ActiveX settings" at the same place as described above that "will do the trick" as well or give an evne more appropriate IE8 behaviour , but I do not want to waste more time on further experiments now. You are all invited to do your own research/exploration !
