663489 2008-04-28 11:27:00 I am currently listing a new copy of Company of Heroes game I got as a bundle from my 8800GT on Trademe.

Today I received an email apparently from Trademe named as proofofgoods@trademe.co.nz asking for a photo of the product and a newspaper date headline to confirm that I do have the product.

Now, I have a crappy Sanyo camera, and I can only take a decent picture of the date headline if I cut half of the game disc from the frame. I'm sure many more people are equipped with poorer cameras or even no camera at all, yet in the email Trademe says they will not let the trade to complete unless I give them this proof.

Anybody else got such a message from trademe?

663490 2008-04-28 11:34:00 Yep I used to get them all the time when I started out with a new TradeMe user.
I had no camera at the time and also don't get a newspaper ever so didn't have a recent copy lying around.
Tried to tell TradeMe this but they wouldn't let it go. They said I had to borrow a camera and go and buy paper.
So I removed the auction and sold the item another way but they wouldn't let me start another auction for a totally different item until I provided that photo.
Bit hard now since I sold it :illogical
Finally got them to allow me to start new auctions and haven't ever had those emails requiring proof of goods since I got a decent feedback rating.
They did require a photo for a few more auctions but I got new camera anyway so wasn't too much of a hassle.

663491 2008-04-28 11:34:00 Just tell them you don't have a digital camera. Not everyone does. ALso not everyone gets the paper. They have got a cheek, unless you have given them problems in the past.
However they can do what they want, as their website is not a democracy. eg. you have to do what they tell you.

Perhaps you could ask them to phone you to dicuss, and to prove they are not just a spam robot.

663492 2008-04-28 11:44:00 I have 114+ positive feedbacks, with only 1 neutral (out of my control, that one).

I'll be giving them this one photo, but if they keep pestering me with this demand on my future auctions, I'm gonna be quite pissed.

Most likely someone else on TradeMe, maybe trying to sell a similar item, that saw yours and reported it to TradeMe to try and get your auction removed giving theirs more chance of selling/higher bids.
