Don't want to dual boot. Does this mean I have to use VMWare?

Download and burn the ISO from the Ubuntu website (from one of the mirrors anyway). On the disc there is a program called Wubi which can install Ubuntu SAFELY within a windows install. It works as a separate OS. Really easy to uninstall too.
