I guess one can only wait and hope :drool After all its not like the ISP don't have "encouragement" to upgrade their networks.

664926 2008-05-02 05:24:00 FRom what I can tell they are talking about DVDs and not Bluray discs???

DVDs are about 9GB max in size but that includes all the extras that usually come on a DVD.
Bluray will stay as they are for HD video and can be anywhere up to 52GB I think.

I doubt the downloads would be in MPEG2 format (DVD format) but rather some form of MPEG4. This would make the downloads a lot smaller while still keeping the same DVD resolution / picture quality.

The movie downloads are h.264 which is what the current offering on the US iTunes Movie store is.

I see Sky are going to offer movie downloads for your PC

"Files will be delivered in the craptacular Windows Media format and will come with Microsoft's Advanced DRM 2.9. This means the file will be locked to the machine it is downloaded to and will come with a time-specific licence that may be anything from one week to a month."

They failed with HD DVD so now they are going to try with "Windows Advanced DRM" and they have just closed the "Plays for sure" service because it didn't work and no one wanted it.

I believe that will be the downfall of the service as it is based on the already hacked codec that TVNZ was using for their TVNZ Ondemand service. I think it lasted a whole couple of hours till the DRM was hacked

TVNZ has since opted soley for the streaming only option I believe.:D
