I was watching this unfold yesterday afternoon, only just found out what it was actually about.

Hopefully a few more details will emerge during the day.

My sincere condolences to the people involved. The emergency services did a great job.

664782 2008-05-01 21:12:00 Is it true that wombats were seen chasing her and her son? Perhaps they thought the river would save them? :illogical

All joking aside, it's pretty tragic all right. Are the river levels particularly high at the moment?

664783 2008-05-01 21:28:00 It has been well publicized in Mot of late, that wombats don't like to swim. One can't help but think that this was the cause of this terrible tragedy. Those damn wombats have a lot to answer for.

The river levels are up a bit, but not a heap. Would like to know exactly how it panned out after they jumped in the river.

I think this could be the start of a serious wombat eradication program around this area, they are causing too much embarrassment and damage to the region. :(

664784 2008-05-02 00:32:00 Actually turns out I kind of know the person. Got a picture and everything, cause I made copies of it for her brother, who I know.

Beat the media. I better not disclose any info though...wait for the Nelson Mail to publish a picture and name...

664786 2008-05-02 08:20:00 Heard it on the news it was very sad.

I have heard a secret rumour that DOC might be targeting the wombats with a new super 1080 dropped in the Mot area.....
