663759 2008-04-29 03:54:00 Just received a letter from sky saying the prices are going up again. My question is, why can't they make their startup plan more flexible and let the customers choose what channels they want to watch?

Not everyone's into disney, juicetv j2, etc.......

663760 2008-04-29 04:08:00 Yea, we went onto the startup package so we could get discovery, history and nat geo... but we have had to move back down to the $18 a month package because we just cant afford it =) As for the inflexibility issue, you raise a very good point...

have you also noticed how there have been alot of reruns lately..

Probably there prices have gone up, because those people who were using them to only get free to air TV, have now gone to freeview, which is free. I will never sign up to them, as I think what they offer is rubbish, and they are a monopoly with no competition, so they have no incentive to improve their services.

Those channels probably don't cost them very much to provide, compared to sport and new movies, which I assume are only in their higher priced packages.

Hi:

Amid the price increase starting this month, why has sky's startup plan shown so little inflexibility compared to other cable tv operators around the world?

I understand that the core business is to maintain and increase uptake in subscription, but shouldn't the customer have the prerogative to choose which channels they do & don't want?

Regards,

Regards,

I don't think they will provide you with an answer you will be happy with . They are a monopoly,so they can do what they want, and charge what they want . What we need is some competition in the market . I had heard that Singtel or a similar asain company were going to start beaming satellite channels into NZ soon??? If that happened they would definately have to lift their game . Personally I would vote with my feet, and tell them, until you start providing value for money, and can justify extra value for the extra money I am paying, I am closing my account with you .

Good call West - let us know if/when you get a response from them .

Just by the by, a mate of mine just went to work for Gen-I - all their employees now get FREE Sky Digital, FREE home phone, FREE Internet, and wholesale prices for Telecom mobiles . . . . . So the cost to Sky for providing these channels must be negligible . :(
