801808 2009-08-17 03:30:00 Hi there,

I purchased an external HDD with e-Sata enabled. When I connect it into my laptop, it dosen't show up as a "Safely Remove...." on my taskbar.

Is it alright to take it out without the safely remove if its an e-Sata enabled or will my External HDD fail if I continually eject it like that?

Can you give me some advice on how to eject the external HDD?

Thanks

801809 2009-08-17 03:34:00 Technically its just plug and play, and is hot swappable, so you can just turn it off/pull the cable without damage, obviously you don't disconnect it while there is data being transferred though.

Are you getting delayed write errors or something?

Not all motherboards/sata controllers seem to give you the 'safely remove' message, and I don't think there's anything that can be done about getting it to appear. You could try a BIOS update and chipset/sata driver update for the notebook.

No, theres no write errors. Everything's running fine.

My External HDD requires me to add my USB Cable and my eSata cable together to run on my laptop.

Is that normal? Is is still alright to eject without "safely removing?"

801811 2009-08-17 03:44:00 Yes it's fine and normal, nothing is damaged by unplugging without doing the 'safely remove' thing.

There isn't a lot of power running through Sata, at least not enough to power a 3.5" hard drive. Do you use a 2.5" or 3.5" external hard drive?

That link might give you some info about it.

801812 2009-08-17 03:45:00 Yes it's fine and normal.

There isn't power running through Sata, at least not enough to power a hard drive, I'd say the USB will be required to power the drive.
So, it is still alright to remove without the "safely remove" on the taskbar?
