663944 2008-04-30 08:24:00 Well I think that is because you bought the second house instead of putting your money elsewhere, you took the risk and you're complaining because it didn't come off. I have one modest house, a good income and small mortgage, and put my money into a super scheme. Have no sympathy for people who tried to make a quick buck and got caught.

I agree. If you are buying a house that is not to live in and for the purpose of an investment, then it is no different to any other investment, and carries the risk of going down in the short to medium term. A lot of people who have purchased houses in the last few years are going to hurt, unless they keep their house for at least 10 more years. Over the long term however house prices will always go up, as long as you didn't pay too much for the house in the first place.

The media also has not helped, as for many years it has told people that if you don't buy a house now, you will never afford one, which has helped to drive up prices. Now the media are doing the opposite by telling people that house prices are going to drop, which is also helping to have a negative effect on prices. I note that there are some real estate agents who are even blaming the media for the downturn in prices, as buyers now expect prices to drop 30% before they will consider buying.

Now you are just waffling mate, you dont know jake s*it about my situation.....I actually inherited the the house when I married my wife...I work all week and in the weekends work doing the house up to sell.

Who said anything about a quick buck, I'm working my butt off, to make a profit to pay off my own mortgage....., without I might add ANY asistance from the government.

You tell me how someones supposed to progress to financial utopia without a risk?

Certainly not by investing in finance houses or money in the bank!

Give'us a break!

I think your financial utopia statement suggests your real motive. You don't have to do up a house to sell it - that is your choice.

Again, too quick and direct with the statements. In general, whatever state a house you're looking to sell is in, you put some effort into making it more marketable, it's like basic knowledge that ROI in this area is more than motivating.

Of course - but if you inherit a house and you're complaining about how hard up you are - maybe you should save yourself the hassle. What after all is the alternative, we all collectively somehow pay for your house. From what I've heard Gareth Morgan was just telling it how it is.

663950 2008-04-30 22:35:00 House prices would be a lot lower if buyers simply said - can't afford it .

yes . I bought a house that I liked in an area I could afford . There seems to be an awful lot of people who advice you to look in areas that have "investment worth" .

Another words pay more to live in a "trendy" area .

Thats what gets so many people into too much debt in the first place .

Well said. People are slowly realising that and more are moving to the provinces.

There you go again, waffling!

You may well be happy with a moderate weekly wage from the super, if its still there when you need it and the weekly wage is enough to survive on....Not everyone is.
But you are now laughing at people with gumption enough to try do more with their lives. There has always been people like you, we had name for them in the playground you know.

The old railway cottage wasn't ready to sell, the bathroom was shocking, and in fact every room was pretty bad.
Having the eldest 2 children renting it for the year didn't help, but in no way could we sell the house as was.

Utopia is a very long way off, the profit from the cottage will help, but we never intend to go out buying houses to do up!, it just so happened that both my wife and I had a house when we got together.

Join in the discussions 12V, but I suggest you keep your opinions to the subject rather than ideas pulled out of your a** about forum posters okay!!

If you follow that logic, the province will become the city.

Just in case I am not clear,if we all go to province, then ...........
