664169 2008-05-01 00:17:00 Gull in Whangarei is the same price as everywhere else.

Well I was wrong! :horrified
Just been to Gull and their 91 is $1.83.9 and 98 is $1.88.9!
So that is about 5 cents cheaper than BP etc.

Hmm. Are there any Gull franchises in the SI or are they all up north? Here in Mot, 95 is $1.97. :yuck:

664171 2008-05-01 02:45:00 This is extremely lame.

Shell has just announced a profit of $7.8 billion, and BP $6.6 billion.

Thats almost a 50% increase on last year.

Playing devils advocate.

You need to take this in context. $7bn is a huge profit but what is their turnover. If they have a turnover of $100bn (which is not unlikely) then that is only a 7% profit which I dont think is unresonable. As the oil companies say they have huge profits cos they are huge companies perhaps ??

Yeah, I was thinking more along these lines . We have to know the turnover aswell as profit to see how badly we are being ripped off . If turnover is $20bn then ofcourse thats pretty bad but if it's like globe has mentioned, the actual margin isn't that high, not to say it isn't sufficient!

As for petrol stations, I fill up at my local Mobil, I know the guys there, very nice people with good service, you can pay via EFTPOS at the pumps but I prefer to go in, say hi, and if I want a coffee the guy offers a bit of a discount so yeah :D . It's Mobil Westgate in Auckland for anyone interested . I find they always atleast a day or 2 'behind' in raising their prices vs . the other branches/companies, so I suppose they don't have some head office that demands for them to raise price on x date by x amount, they just do it

664174 2008-05-01 20:34:00 Local news stations (US) are predicting that we'll get to $10 . 00 USD / US Gallon very soon .

That's (I hope I get this right this time) $3 . 39 / Liter .

There are 3 . 79 Liters in our 1 gallon . . .

. . . . . and the US-to-NZ dollar rate right now is $1 . 00:$1 . 29

Hopefully that is close to correct .

Much of the price hike is from the devaluation of the US greenback; OPEC wants gold!

AND . . . we just got told that about 36% of our corn crop is being sent off to make fuel . That's OK since we don't eat that much corn, but our farm animals and especially our beef do!

Mexican states have not seen corn on the shelves in about 2 or 3 years now . . . it is all going to ethanol . . and the Mexicans use corn as their primary staple .

Corn futures in most of South America are all bought and already sold too .
