Wow . . . youse guys have some strange ideas of how I might like to celebrate things .

Usually, I like to stay sober and it's not because I don't enjoy alcohol . . . it's the day after that's the pits .

Actually . . . it's more like I had a quiet day sniffling and snorting, barfing (do youse guys "barf"?) and feeling kinda like I HAD a big night the night before . . . but I didn't .

Sorry to lead astray . . . but the sinuses are the worst problem I have when the weather changes so radically .

No . . . the day didn't pass in ignominy or regrets . I am just now marked as a year or a day or an hour, a minute or a second older .

Sigh .

Still breathing here and maintaining homeostatic* values .

664035 2008-05-01 16:21:00 What season you changing to? The heat must be starting to pick up? rob_on_guitar (4196)
664036 2008-05-01 19:43:00 Yesterday (Apr 29th) we had about 102 . 3ºF/ 39 . 06ºCWow that's HOT!

Our Summers can get to 120ºF / 48 . 9ºC during extreme tempsWow - that's extreme!

Most I have ever experienced was 44ºC in Empangeni in South Africa . Even 30ºC is a tad too warm for me .

As I mentioned . . . Auckland has a great climate with temperature changes between seasons quite modest .

We are in the throws of starting Spring . . . well it started in March anyway . . . . and here it is the Oneth of May . Heat? Not really . . . I LIKE heat . Old bones and all .

BTW: We have a 700+ acre fire running wild in the local mountains just above me here . It's between Idyllwild and Garner Valley . . . . near Lake Hemet where I want to go for some early trout . Hmmmm .

It is about 10 miles away and so far not under much control . . . . . although they expect it to slow down when the winds die out a little later .

It's so early in the firs season that they are expecting very bad fires if this is any indicator of things to come . They say this almost every year though . . so it might just all fizzle out too .

664039 2008-05-02 02:49:00 WILCO . . and there's no smoke here yet . . . but it might roll down the hill when it settles down and the temps drop a little tonight .

I tend to not go near any fires . . . so chances of personal damage to me are nil . . . but we had fire brands landing here last time it was like this so I hadda get out on the roof and wet it down until one midnight .

Fun . . . fun . . fun .

664040 2008-05-02 03:32:00 A fire burning near Apache Peak in the San Jacinto Wilderness is now at 5 percent containment and estimate it will be a week before they get full containment.

As of Thursday evening an estimated 700 acres had burned, according to InciWeb, and the growth potential has been downgraded from “extreme” to “medium.”
There are no evacuations, but the San Jacinto Wilderness and Mt. San Jacinto State Park are closed until further notice. The Devil’s Slide, Spitler Peak, Southridge Fobes Ranch and Cedar Springs trails — and a section of the Pacific Crest Trail, are also closed.

The fire was reported at 4:35 p.m. Tuesday in a steep, roadless area.

High winds, smoke and the terrain made fighting the fire difficult this morning; aircraft were finally able to attack the blaze for 2 and a half hours during the afternoon.

The blaze is moving through heavy downed logs and timber into grass and brush.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but it is believed it was caused by a tossed cigarette on the foot trail.
