663935 2008-04-30 03:44:00 How do you get those averages??? rob_on_guitar (4196)
663936 2008-04-30 03:57:00 Oops - was putting more info in and lost my slot. Takes a bit of time to troll through the NZ Statistics site for all this:

The average NZ persons weekly gross income in June 1998 was $425

The average income in June 2007 was $667

That is a 57% rise in income over 9 years.

Weekly household income 1998 $837

Weekly household income 2007 $1307

That is an increase of 56%

Weekly household expenditure in 1998 $683.10

Weekly household expenditure in 2007 $956

That is a 40% rise in expenditure.

So - this tells us that both personal and household incomes have increased more than household expenditure = as Gareth Morgan said, we are much better off today than we were. But of course, no-one wants to hear that....lets all moan and blame the "gummint".....well, it seems like that from the media. :D

663937 2008-04-30 05:09:00 The expenditure difference between 2007 and 2008 is going to be rather large.... prices have gone up a lot in the last 12 months. wratterus (105)

* rose by 22.4 percent for the 60- to 64-year-old age group, while the 20- to 24-year-old age group decreased by 2.7 percent.

* Thirty-eight percent of people received investment income, the highest proportion of any June quarter between 2002 and 2007.
* For those receiving investment income, the average weekly income from investment was $137, up 29.1 percent from the previous quarter.

Yes, but they haven't kept up with Australia, which is why there is now such a big difference between NZs and Ozs wages. ALso as NZ has experienced such prosporous times between 1999-2008, you would expect incomes to have risen to at least those amounts. It is becuase we have such a small wage buffer/disposable income, unlike other countries, that we are now facing this problem.

Interesting that the government are telling NZ companies to pay higher wages, effectively blaming NZ companies for the brain drain. With what do you pay them, especially if we are importing so much more than we are exporting?

663941 2008-04-30 07:11:00 OMG, I have find someone who is a bigger condescending c**t than Micheal Cullan . . . .

Did anybody see that? . . . . . I am speechless . . . . .

I wish I'd seen it - I gather Gareth told it how it is to the people who whinge on about not having enough money . No doubt the Government will step in and tax me more to pay the poor souls who are in this situation . For those of us who live within our means - we will get to subsidise the people who don't .

I'm still recovering from that dork who said he couldn't live in Grey Lynn poor thing - I think he thinks no one ever had to work hard for a house before he came along .

12V, I dont mind the truth, its the manner in which he came across, especially from someone who doesn't have to worry about such matters . These people he says are highly geared are in many cases the people going out to get 2nd houses to provide for their future, like myself .

I am the sole provider of 4, have a very good paying job, yet find it difficult to contemplate kiwisaver at present .

Well I think that is because you bought the second house instead of putting your money elsewhere, you took the risk and you're complaining because it didn't come off. I have one modest house, a good income and small mortgage, and put my money into a super scheme. Have no sympathy for people who tried to make a quick buck and got caught.
