2008-05-08 02:37:00 | Has anyone else read this write up? The top rated product was G Data Internet Security Suite, which I've never even heard of??? Has anyone used this? Ratings were as follows (Best to worst): - G Data Internet Security Suite - BitDefender 2008 - F-secure IS 2008 - Kaspersky IS 7 - Ashampoo Security Pack 2 - Avira Premium - ESET NOD32 - Norton IS 2008 (Boo!! Hiss!!) - McAfee IS 2008 - Steganos IS 2008 - Panda IS 2008 - Trend Micro IS 2008 - Microsoft Live OneCare - Agnitum Outpost Security Suite Pro - CA IS Suite Plus 2008 They also rate 3 stand-alone Firewall apps, and rank Ashampoo Firewall Free as best, followed by Comodo, and thenm Agnitum Outpost Firewall Free. I'm still amazed how so many reviews like this get wildly different results from the same suites! Just read this a bit more closely, and they're suggesting that serious virus infection can cause permanent hardware damage?????? Disclaimer: You should, of course, buy Consumer to read the article in full!! :D

2008-05-08 06:32:00 | I didn't know it was available to read at the library? I suppose it depends on your library, but my library has it, and I don't see why all other libraries also wouldn't have it.

2008-05-08 09:11:00 | Just read this a bit more closely, and they're suggesting that serious virus infection can cause permanent hardware damage?????? there are a few vurises that attack bios's, MB bios but also HD firmware. tho in most cases recoverable tho in some i might be cheaper to throw it away and buy another.

2008-05-08 09:19:00 | Altho if you have an ASUS that supports crashfree BIOS, even if it hit the BIOS this would fix it. I re-flashed a BIOS, a few weeks ago, coz it looks like it got hit by something. It kept repeating itself on the post screen. And wouldnt go any further.

2008-05-08 13:10:00 | consumer credability = ZERO I was working in Retail whenthey reviewed Vacum cleaners. They reviewed a Panasonic and a Sanyo. The Panasonic was slammed and rated at the bottom alongside a Dyson. Problem 1: The same factory makes the Panasonic and Sanyo machines. They badge the differently and sell them under the 2 brands. Panasonic asked for the serial number son both machines and were able to determine they came from the same production run on the same day. Only difference, the brand name. Dyson also called Consumer. Turns out the Dyson they tested was one sent to them a year before hand and was being used around the office as a cleaner. they hadn't bothered clearing the filters, in fact the dyson rep visited the office to check the machine and showed them where the filters were. They were quite impressed at how much suction the Dyson had after that, Quality testing that was. Consumer ALWAYS test and slam the 'brand' names.

2008-05-08 22:09:00 | It also depends on the weighting of their scores. I haven't checked the article, but if they weigh ease of use highly, then some less secure products are going to get rated better. As for AVG, most people are running their AV not the full internet security suite which these reviews are about.

2008-05-08 22:28:00 | But, were these reviews based on the LATEST version of these suites, and firewalls?? If theyre not, then things would / may have changed from the previous to the later version of the suite.
