665874 2008-05-04 13:42:00 FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) -- A Texas woman who caused her lover's shooting death by falsely crying rape was convicted Friday of involuntary manslaughter.

Tracy Denise Roberson, 37, cried when the verdict was announced. The punishment phase was set for Monday, and she faces two to 20 years in prison.

In late 2006, Darrell Roberson came home from a late-night card game to find his scantily clad wife with another man in a pickup in the driveway. Tracy Roberson was with her lover but cried rape, and her husband fired four shots into the truck as Devin LaSalle drove off, killing him.

Darrell Roberson was arrested, but a murder charge was dropped, and a grand jury indicted Tracy Roberson instead.

During her three-day trial, defense attorneys called no witnesses but blamed LaSalle's death on Darrell Roberson's jealousy and rage.

But prosecutors placed all the blame on Tracy Roberson, showing evidence of the affair with LaSalle, 32, and a text message in which she invited him to her house that evening.

Discuss... I think husband overreacted and wife got what she deserved.

665875 2008-05-04 21:38:00 On the face of it:

The husband fired shots at the truck (and therefore at the man in the truck) as it drove off. So, he was not shooting in self-defence. He was certainly shooting with another intent. He would have been aware of the possibility of lethal effect when he fired the gun. A good case for murder.

As to the wife being guilty of involuntary manslaughter - I'm not sure what needs to be proved to obtain such a conviction - but 20 years seems a harsh sentence for this.

665876 2008-05-04 22:00:00 Does anyone here on PressF1 think JUSTICE will be done in New Zealand?

What we do have is LAWS and amendments to LAWS and also amendments to the amendments and etc.

JUSTICE is when the wrongdoing is not done in the first place.

Once the wrongdoing has been done anything that comes after is an attempt to amend that which cannot be amended.

The study of jurisprudence splits this hair into finer and finer strands.

665878 2008-05-04 22:56:00 I think we do just OK, it's the soft sentencing that is absolute sh*t. rob_on_guitar (4196)
665879 2008-05-04 22:59:00 JUSTICE as dispensed by "Dexter" (TV3, 9.30pm Mondays) :clap

Probably never in NZ. I am half expecting to see Judge Tony Adeane get slapped down for actually having the balls to jail repeat drunk drivers here in Hawkes Bay.

To many trendies and strange politicians around!

665880 2008-05-04 23:29:00 That's why infidelity can cause you your life.

20 years would be too much for the wife, even though she is at fault. The guy is just being a good husband.

665881 2008-05-04 23:40:00 This is a really old story - not sure why CNN should bring it up again. But yeah, the guy deserves to be charged withmurder, perhaps 2nd or 3rd degree. The woman deserves every minute of her sentence - it would be fair justice if she gets an equivalent term as him. Greg (193)

The "rapist" (or so the husband thought) was leaving the scene. A good husband would have little else on his mind other than making sure his wife was okay, I would have thought....

665883 2008-05-05 07:22:00 If I caught someone raping my wife, I'd kill him, Gladly.

Though the guy in the news article should have shot his wife.
