| 665063 | 2008-05-02 14:07:00 | If I wanted to find out how other businesses roster their workers, say I just wanted to know their standard shift hours, is there a database of this kind of info or is it a simple case of ringing whoever and finding out one by one? The people I'd like to know about would be: The police Security companies Normal shift workers |

| 665064 | 2008-05-02 17:43:00 | When I did shift work my hours were 4pm-12am or 12am-7.30am. My wife who is a nurse does 12 hour shifts. 7pm-7am..but usually longer, because she has to write notes and other admin work. A security company I know did 6pm-6am. |

| 665065 | 2008-05-02 22:40:00 | Well I'm just a normal factory worker and my shift roster is as follows. 7am to 7pm for 3 days then 3 days off, then back on for 3 nights of 7pm to 7am with 3 days off after that, followed by the day shift again. And so it goes on and on.... Been doing that shift roster for over 10 years now. |

| 665066 | 2008-05-02 23:02:00 | The business I'm in runs 24/7. We have three shifts over a 24 hour period of 0730-1600, 1600-2400 and 0000-0800 hours. The 0000-0800 shift cycles for four days on, four days off. The other shifts run per roster system from Mon-Sun with generally only up to 5 days worked per week or a maximum of 10 days per fortnight. The different shift periods all have permanent staff, so you tend only to work the shift you were employed for. I think you will find each business has their own way of running shift work and there isn't really one standard way. Are you more interested in the standard legal requirements for shift workers with hours and breaks? |

| 665068 | 2008-05-02 23:49:00 | Hi Rob... A former neighbour was police. He used to say that their rosters were unlike a factrory system which was routine production. Theirs, and nurses to some degree, had to have extra staff available for troubled times - hours of darkness, pubs closing in the old days and so on. He seemed to work twice as many antisocial shifts as anything else....... so that staff could double up to deal with the idiots. | Scouse (83) | ||

| 665070 | 2008-05-04 03:38:00 | Call centre, 7am-3pm or such . . with 2x 15min breaks and 1hr break . Set lunch breaks and rest breaks . The last one was 11am-7pm or such . . Some mid shifts in between like starting at 9 or 10 etc . . Rosters changed every 2nd week . Roles I known were perm and contract or temp . They are paid by hours and not paid a salary (yearly) . |
