| 665051 | 2008-05-02 10:08:00 | I need to rack the brains of you intelligent guys here at PF1 for ideas on how to keep my business running while I am away. As some of you may have heard, I'm going to America from June 1st to December 3rd. During this time I want to keep my business ticking over. I will continue to sell items on TradeMe and to existing customers, and all that needs to happen here is the storage of computers, imaging of them (OSs) and shipping them out. I have a friend who I can pay to do the imaging and box up the computers if required, but what I need is a warehouse to use with the following requirements: - Power (just to run the computers so they can have the OS images applied) - Internet access (I can get around this if it's the only shortcoming) - Space for up to 100 computers (not actually a huge amount of space) - Ability to accept courier / pallet deliveries - Ability to accept courier pickups One of my suppliers offers these services but not at a price that will work very well for me. I am looking to spend under $200 per week for this arrangement if possible, hopefully quite a bit under. I send out about 10 PCs per week at the moment. Does anybody have any ideas on a solution for me? I don't know any companies that would be willing to provide the warehouse space and renting a warehouse is out of my price range. This is in Wellington by the way. Thanks in advance - I'm fast running out of good ideas and some new input might be very helpful. |

If you want to go away and leave some other person to run your business then I would suggest you pick some person you trust with your life. |

Thats why some small business owners don't have many holidays. You could try a storage company, but they probably don't have internet connections, although you could get wirless internet, or get one close to a wifi hotspot. |

I know, but this trip has been in the planning since when my business was much smaller and less significant than it is now. I might cut the trip shorter than 6 months but cancelling it isn't going to happen. That said, I can't afford to allow this not to work. I can buy a Vodem or the telecom equivalent, that's not a huge issue. Would a storage company allow someone to work there for a few hours every day using power etc? |

| 665056 | 2008-05-02 11:23:00 | What would the arrangement be for legal liability of the items being stored, insurance, security, etc.? | somebody (208) | ||
| 665057 | 2008-05-02 12:21:00 | Sounds like a lot of service, facilities, etc for less than $20 a unit. | Scouse (83) | ||
| 665058 | 2008-05-02 13:27:00 | What would the arrangement be for legal liability of the items being stored, insurance, security, etc.? Good point, something I'll have to look into depending on what I end up doing. Scouse, the imaging is best done dozens of units at a time, and many can be done at once. It works out at about 3 mins per computer depending on what you use and how many you do at a time. Putting a PC in a box only take a minute, and those are both tasks that I have arranged for my friend to be able to do. The only thing that needs to be done on a per-PC basis is sticking on the shipping label and giving it the the courier. |
