801930 2009-08-17 11:17:00 I think I shorted a usb port on my Dell minitower and now it won't boot up properly. The PSU starts as soon as it is plugged in and there is a light on the MB but the screen remains blank.
What could I try?

What colour is the light behind the power button? Is it blinking? There are also diagnostic lights on the back labelled A, B, C and D. What combination light up?
Also, what condition are the capacitors on the motherboard in? Any with bulging tops and/or leaking?

801933 2009-08-17 12:34:00 Sounds like the pc is booting but no video signal to me! SolMiester (139)
801934 2009-08-17 12:42:00 I don't hear the boot sequence though. The hard drive sounds like it's working. Could it have anything to do with the chassis intrusion switch? It seems to make no differenec whether this is on or off as I have the case open. Any other thoughts? bpt2 (6653)
801935 2009-08-17 13:48:00 I should add that the keyboard lights up briefly when I start up but then all its lights go out. bpt2 (6653)

801937 2009-08-17 23:02:00 Odd that the combination of lights I have (GYGG) is not listed on any site I can find. I have concluded that the MB has failed.
Thanks for your help.

801939 2009-08-18 06:42:00 I had difficulty inseting a flash drive and a piece droppped out of the port. After that I could no longer boot up and the screen remained blank. bpt2 (6653)
