And as for you SolMiester, you know next to nothing about me but seem unable to refrain from attacking me rather than my opinions. When the person stops playing the ball and starts playing the player it usually means that they are either unable to address the points of the other person's argument - or simply that they lack the character to be able not to get personal. I give you the benefit of the doubt and assume the former. For the record: I do have children (well, singular - so far...) I am not a christian but I do believe in God and revere the Torah (the so-called "Old Testament"). |

| 666698 | 2008-05-09 00:44:00 | Somebody tell me how to quickly stop a 2yr old doing something that puts its life in danger.....! So you're close enough to administer a beating and that's the only option you can think of? I was in Hamilton East on Wednesday where a parent showed the ugly face of "lovingly disciplining" her child to the extent that passengers in cars stopped at the lights were yelling at her to lay off. Her response was to threaten them with the same violence. There's no way that behaviour like that wins respect. |

| 666699 | 2008-05-09 00:50:00 | to what we have today with no respect for elders and absolutely no fear of consequences....amazing! This kind of remark has been made about the "younger generation" by the "older generation" for all of history. |

Her response was to threaten them with the same violence. There's no way that behaviour like that wins respect. Thats not to say I'll always be close enough is it and where did I say administer a beating? You need to read a thesaurus, no-where does it say a 'smack'. Thrashing, Pounding, Whipping, Thumping!!, no smacking! So Hamilton has someone who has other ideas about a smack, does that mean everyone does?....Get a grip! I have no doubt there are heaps of people out there who did get a heavy hand during childhood, and maybe that is why the are staunch opponents of smacking, but doesn't mean everyone had a hard childhood. The single mother revolution where 15-17 yr old who didn't have much help bringing up kids certainly doesn't help. If parenting skills are not passed down correctly then yes, some parents are not going to understand how to use a smack effectively, and in turn just use it more often and perhaps heavy handed. I'm waiting for someone to tell me why, if we have been beating our children for thousands of years, why is it that only in the last 20-30 yrs we have the violence children now......I'll tell you why, and that is because parenting skills are not being handed down to the DPB mums from the 80-90's, and who's kids are now parents themselves... Deane, you say you have a child, I just have to say I doubt that from your posts. Oh, and opinions ARE personal, everybody has one, but not everyone is right. I cant see any real attacking so far anyway....Where did I attack you ya wus! |
