I suppose it makes you feel good about yourself being part of the 'cause'. Unfortunately, all this hype detracts from the real issues the world is currently facing. I suppose you approve of the impending carbon trading scheme, which will achieve nothing and cost billions. There's alot of people who are sick and tired of having all this nonsense shoved down our throats. You forget Le,ignorance is bliss. |

2008-05-06 05:10:00 | There's alot of people who are sick and tired of having all this nonsense shoved down our throats. And to the contrary - there's also a lot of people who are sick and tired of having people ignoring global warming, regardless of it caused by man or not. And no, I don't support the carbon trading crap, because at the end of the day it doesn't achieve what its name implies, instead maybe it will probably worsen global warming ultimately. Whether you think global warming is a real issue or 'codswallop', you're going to do more than just think when the Pacific Islands drown and the North and South Poles reduced to nothing more than icicles.

2008-05-06 06:18:00 | There are at least three different issues here, but people, for commercial reasons, have tried to turn them into one. Global Warming does exist and so does Global Cooling. The earth is like that and has been doing it for millions of years. Pollution is quite another subject and should be addressed as such. Man made Global Warming is now and industry, just like the Y2K bug, except it is a better bet because there is no termination date. What amazes me is the devious way the Government has tried to climb on board and collect extra taxes. No amount of taxes will stop some of the Ice Caps melting and if a few thousand Hectares do, so what? Its not as though there isnt much of them. In fact, it may be a good idea? I think there are huge oil resources under them which would come in handy. ;)

2008-05-06 09:19:00 | Ahem: www.nytimes.com That proves nothing. If the warming and cooling of the earth is part of a normal cycle, then isn't that to be expected?

2008-05-06 09:23:00 | That proves nothing. If the warming and cooling of the earth is part of a normal cycle, then isn't that to be expected? That's not the problem, and that's what makes this so damn frustrating. The problem is to come up with some ways to minimise the detrimental effects on the environment that such climate changes will bring. But obviously many prefer to, well, bury their heads in the sand.

2008-05-06 10:31:00 | We are seeing changes that haven't occurred since the last ice age. | zqwerty (97) | |
2008-05-06 10:37:00 | But that is the whole point. It is all part of a natural cycle so there is no point in trying to fight it. If certain species die out then so be it! Others will adapt and we may get new species. Insofar as the ice caps melting and flooding Pacific Islands - that isn't going to happen. It is not a case of head in the sand - it is based on the fact that ice is less dense than water. Similarly carbon dioxide emissions have zip effect on the upper atmosphere. Why? CO2 is heavier than air. Pure and simple facts. I agree we are polluting the planet and there are (or will be) too many people but that is entirely a different issue. IMO this is the Y2K bug all over again - although, as BM pointed out, with no end in sight! | andrew93 (249) | |
