If you answer yes to both of those questions then explain why it is that you wouldn't hit your employee (for instance). |

| 666687 | 2008-05-08 21:11:00 | You seem to have tied "not smacking" to crime. I would think its more related to bad parenting than smacking. Violent crimes and criminals are often attributed to violent childhoods. As I said before "violence begets violence". Look back through the posts, there are a lot of people with "my dad smacked me so I think its ok to smack my kids" The violent acts has the appropriate laws to take care of them, like the Kahui case, toddler that was stabbed, etc. The first 10-12 years of a kids life is so important. If you don't teach them what's is wrong and right, it's going to affect the rest of their lives. And doing wrong has its consequences, not those violent consequences but like smacking on the hand, buttocks, etc |

| 666689 | 2008-05-08 23:32:00 | Here's a couple of great verses from the bible that seem to be ignored by the same christians that promote smacking children: "Women should be silent in the churches, for they are not permitted to speak, but should be submissive, as the law also says." 1 Corinthians 14:34 "A bastard shall not enter into the congregation of the Lord; even to his tenth generation shall he not enter into the congregation of the Lord." Deuteronomy 23:2 |

Deuteronomy 23:2 It's not promoting smacking, its promoting sensible discipline. What version is that from? The issue of woman speaking etc in churches is an extremely interesting one, if you are interested in that. |

You could try discussing the matter with them, perhaps some naughty chair time? Barriers are what help guide children, while it is always preferable to have children understand them, its sometimes not possible, that is where a smart smack will focus the child on you and your commands in my opinion. You cant say it doesn't hurt the parent to smack with open hand there child because it does, no one really wants to hurt their child. I believed the purpose of the new law was to enable the court recourse against those parents actually do abuse their kids as in a closed fist, or other solid material, however like most laws, it is only ever law abiding citizens who heed such a law. My opinion is, if you dont wish to use a smack on your children fine, however neither you nor the government have ANY right to tell me how to discipline my child, plain and simple. As for you Deane, why dont you save your opinions until you actually have children and experience rather than spout your fancifully ideas at the rest of us who do already do. I just cant grasp how some people haven't married the 60-70 USA liberal approach to youth upbringing and discipline to what we have today with no respect for elders and absolutely no fear of consequences....amazing! |
