665193 2008-05-04 11:45:00 We are seriously on our own, all we have is each other, we are seriously trashing the eco-system, there are too many of us on Earth:

space.about.com

There are more people alive now than have ever existed in all time before 1950.

Are you going to volunteer to leave this Planet one person short of the present population? I would do that but due to my location the planet may tip over and thus reverse the North and South poles.

Then the Polar bears would be rather confused as they would be looking up at stars they have never seen before.

665195 2008-05-04 21:36:00 Sad . Just suppose that you were the NEXT child . . and that you are the one who WASN'T born!

Now . . . and I am sure that you are misunderstanding my rhetoric here . . . but let's not sterilize anyone . . . just NO MORE SEX EXCEPT FOR RECREATIONAL PURPOSES .

Well if we were we would be completely unaware of the fact .

Actually there is such a thing as contraception .

665196 2008-05-05 04:07:00 You can try to blame the shortfall of food production to the global heating/chilling . . . but it doesn't hold water . . . not yet anyway .

Get this: 35% of the US corn production is going to motor fuel .

I agree with many of your points . The reality is, not enough Americans source information from alternative news sources other than the main stream media, so I guess me bitching in forums is not going to change much .

As for food, Yes there has been a lot of media attention over here about BioFuel production starting to starve people in 3rd world nations and push up food prices everywhere . I don't think many blame food shortages on global warming, well actually its kinda related as many using the fuel think they are doing the world a favor lol (as they fill up there 4 litre SUV) .

But as always the US government will do nothing, it needs to ban biofuel production as soon as possible, or heavily at least tax it . Mind due I haven't seen the NZ government taking any action either . Its easier to deal with it now before we see farms start to convert .

665197 2008-05-05 04:14:00 Rather than stopping biofuel altogether, we all should come up with an alternative to corn. Corn is vital as a food source, not only for humans but for stock as well. Stopping the production of biofuel won't fix the gas prices and availability in the future. qazwsxokmijn (102)

The corn is being used to feed cattle who are being raised in feedlots, not farms as we would think of a 'farm'. 'Corn fed beef' is exactly that - the cattle never saw a blade of grass nor got one anywhere near its digestive tract. 3kg of corn to make 1 kg of beef - where's the sense in that?

665200 2008-05-05 05:08:00 Corn is good...but BEEF is delicious.

Ummmm!

Actually, corn is used to get some extra fat on the beef...they are usually fed on alfalfa and grasses and some waste products from agriculture in the US feedlot enclosures.

They only "corn them up" just before slaughter.

I agree beef is tasty but have a read of 'Fast Food Nation'.
