| 667065 | 2008-05-09 09:03:00 | Like many here I do not like Telecom / Xtra. But at least they do advertise trying to get people on to broadband. Aside from Slingshot, the other ISP's never advertise and you wonder why so many people go with Xtra . Vodaphone and telstra do a fair bit of advertsing too, as do the budget kiwi online (albit in off peak times) Vodaphones is probably inline with telecoms, in the amount they do. |

| 667068 | 2008-06-30 07:36:00 | As you say it is a trick and other ISPs are not as devious as to offer a useless 200MB plan which you then pay excess for when you go over after a few days use. By the way Xtra does not exist anymore, it is called Telecom. That's exactly right. Telecom in my opinion is finally just starting to improve rapidly, I got to tell ya I'm very impressed. |

| 667069 | 2008-06-30 07:48:00 | I am actually very impressed with Telecom for finally beginning to live up to it's potential . I joined during the "First TWO months free" bargain, and of course; there was a catch but as for my progress, this is how I began: I joined Telecom on the: "Go plan" costing $39 . 95 for 3GB . The upload speed is 128Kbps (is that bytes or bits???!! Someone help me with that, I know it's bits over the world, but maybe with Telecom it's bytes?), the download speed is the same on every Telecom plan: 7600Kbps max . I used it, it was no where near enough . It's good speed internet but the 3GB are usually for those who surf for non-long times with very few downloads . So, I changed to the: "Explorer Plan" costing $49 . 95 a month for 6GB . The speeds were the same as the recent plan . It was much better, but only good for ONE person who surfs for long hours with only the occassional clip and a few audio tracks . So, after two months I changed . My friend from Auckland is on the 10GB, and he goes to dial-up speed when he exceeds it, and he's 15, (I'm 17) so I skip that plan (Adventure) and go with my current plan, and the one I'll use for a long time I'm imagining: "PRO" costing $79 . 95 a month for 15GB . It's plenty of data, but if you go over, it costs extra, so if it is a 30 day month you use no more than 512MB per day which is quite a lot! On 31 day months, I don't pass 498MB otherwise I make myself use less the next day . The "Pro" plan is superb! The upload speed is also like 5 times faster than those 10GB plans and below . I noticed the difference in the speed too, it's brilliant . The highest upload speed for the 15, 30 and 50GB plans are said to be 768Kbps . I'm not sure if that's bits or bytes . That's bits over the world, but I'm sure it may be BYTES here . I don't know, if someone could answer that it would be great . So overall, Xtra are costly, but the speeds are very great and I'm very impressed . |

The download is also bits per second, the figures you quote are based on your modem's sync speed with the exchange . The actual download speed allocated to you at that point will probably be much less . 3GB isn't a trivial amount of surfing, you need to get out more, there's more to life than YouTube ;) |

| 667071 | 2008-06-30 21:41:00 | While not too willing to give telecon a "thumbs-up", I could easily agree they have earned a "Toes-up". ;) | R2x1 (4628) | ||

No, I do use Youtube, but not often . I use other downloading sites but I am a Year 12 student who uses it for study but more for a luxury . Though, I have no negatives about this particular plan yet, I did notice the change in the upload speed compared to both the 3 and 6GB plans . I'm happy with my plan, and I'll stick with it . I could say the obvious, maybe if it were $10-20 cheaper for the plan, or unless Telecom and Xnet are good for what you pay for? Who knows . Xtra can rot in hell! -Yeah, I know it's sort of Xtra, but Telecom are starting to improve and maybe live up to it's potential, because I'm impressed . |

| 667073 | 2008-07-02 19:47:00 | Also, on the Telecom "Pro" plan which is 15GB per month (mine), the speeds are very good, definitely faster than the other providers except TelstraClear and Xnet which I do not know about. I speed tested my internet and the highest I came to was (speedtest.net): Download Speed: 6,515Kbps Upload Speed: 590Kbps And Telecom haven't given me a download or upload speed, just the line speed, I don't know if this is good or not for this country: 6258.4Kbps 767KB/s I don't know, but I think Telecom do their measuring in Kilo BYTES per second, not bits, so that KB/s sounds about right for the "Pro" plan, who knows. Telecom confuse me because they say Kilo BYTES but I think it's bits. Confusing business... |
