666483 2008-05-06 10:44:00 What a silly comment, No way in hell most potential buyers have bought one.

Plus they are due to release a new version quite soon, according to inside sources which are amazingly accurate. The one for NZ would have to be 3G. A pity that we have some of the highest datacharges in the world for non contract users, as I would like to use one with mobile internet.

Hopefully the likes of Vodafone "might" drop their web surfing a data usage charges A LOT when the iPhone finally arrives here - well if they have two brain cells to rub together between them they will - Paul if you are listening....

Of ALL smart phones such as the CrackBerry, RIM etc, the iPhone is responsible for the MOST web surfing in countries where it is available - lots of web surfing means LOTS of revenue for the telco with the iPhone contract

666485 2008-05-06 11:07:00 I think I will hold off any purchase for twenty years or so to see how they settle down with a bit of use. R2x1 (4628)
666486 2008-05-06 11:08:00 Now why in hell would they change their business model for the release of the iPhone?

Its just another gimmicky phone, Not the second coming of christ, People will buy it because they have their ego's attached to the junk they buy. Witness anyone showing off how wankey their new phone is to see the proof.

As Wi-Fi becomes a more regular thing (especially publicly) it'll be great having this on the phone, especially for push technology like RSS-based media and email, etc. and third-party VOIP is pretty promising to side-step carrier charges. Actually a lot of the 3rd-party apps have kept me interested for a good while on my iPod touch. The iPhone easily has its cons (suck camera, no video, kinda wanky) but since it's a 2nd gen launching here that gives it more hope.

Here's the official press release from Vodafone (www.vodafone.com).

Because if they don't adjust (drop) their data usage charges they are going to miss out on a whole lot of $$$. Surfing Google maps may not be a "huge" deal in Wanganui ( its pretty small) but in somewhere like Auckland, Melbourne, Sydney, London, NY - you want to find that bar, pub or your friends flat - you search on Google maps and 20 seconds later - bingo. All that surfing costs an excessive amount at the moment.

The rumoured changes about the 3G iPhone sound pretty interesting too. Also the iPhone Apps store should be up and running after the WWDC in June with loads of 3rd party apps available and more coming.

666489 2008-05-06 11:23:00 Yeah unfortunately there's not as many free Wifi Hotspots in NZ as elsewhere in the world :( Chilling_Silence (9)

From Wanganui to Aussie to London?, wtf are you talking about? (apart from trying to give Vodafone the learn on making money, LMFAO)

Anyway, Buy a GPS.Phones are total **** for more then making calls and sending the odd text, Though the inclusion of FM radio on some models is a bit of a bonus.

666491 2008-05-06 11:29:00 Don't need to buy a GPS - the 2nd gen iPhone will have it built in. vitalstatistix (9182)
666492 2008-05-06 11:33:00 Thats why every kitchen now only needs a Swiss army knife.

I don't know a single person who uses a GPS who would even consider using their phone instead for the task.

Its a gimmick, and Nokia already have one on the market
