802598 2009-08-19 23:05:00 It really depends on what you are doing - personally Xp is a dog after using W7.

After using Vista & W7, when working on XP computers, they seem so "bland and dull- lacking features".

I have the W7 on two Workshop PC's evaluating it - and also on my own.

Networking works better, transfers over the LAN are faster.

I have put the home premium on another workshop PC to see what breaks - and what doesn't, found out that the XP mode will install on Home Premium, but wont run - comes up with an error saying this version is not supported.

Installed Basic as a "look see" - :groan::yuck: Wont go there.

After working with Both Vista and W7 on the same Hardware (Dual Boot) - there is a noticeable difference in performance gain and stability with W7.

All in all I think Vista was needed to make W7 so much better. (hope that makes sence)

I've already got several orders for New PC's with W7 when its available to the public on the 22nd Oct - now all we need is the pricing - MS are staying tight lipped about that in the Asia pacific region so far.

802599 2009-08-19 23:18:00 What do you mean by runs better? Things are faster, or responsive or? Most things I have read, they found Win 7 was slightly better than Vista, but XP was generally faster...

Much more responsive. Maybe slightly less that XP, but thats understandable with all this eye candy and extra UI features..

802601 2009-08-20 00:14:00 Running W7 Enterprise at present in a domain, only issue so far is authentication to a proxy server as W7 uses a new model. A registry adjustment fixed that.
I'm still learning where everything is. I like the new profile layout as in the local and roaming profiles are separated better. The thumb views of grouped apps are great. And really almost any device just installs itself....
Deployment will be the killer proposition for me coming from an XP environment. The ability to create one image to dump on any computer will be a great boon. WDS server will now get some free space....LOL

802602 2009-08-20 04:12:00 I am not upgrading , unless they offer the app $100 (US) upgrade deal that they offered their customers in the USA and Europe. I am now using Vista Ultimate which I find to work faster than XP (after XP has had all the security and SPs added). Ultimate was supposed to come with a whole lot of 'added' features int ehfuture, but Microsoft never ended up providing those , so I hope they give Vista Ultimate users a better upgrade deal, seeing Ultimate was so much more expensive. robbyp (2751)
802603 2009-08-20 21:53:00 Yeah Homegroups are nice, have setup a few now, given an older couple who was having major problems sharing files / printers between their two PCs (Authentication issues) Win7 trial on both machines as a dual-boot, and they're happy as larry. As soon as it comes out they're buying the full deal to keep it.

Also, the Libraries are kinda nice once you get used to them also! :)
