To me that is scandalous that those fat cats can make money out of dealing on staple goods that we all need. I saw a documentary on tv the other day that showed the pampas of Argentina that has been converted from grain and beef to soy and bio fuel crops, The area is absolutely staggering. A chopper flew over it for HOURS. |

I have heard that the price of rice has increased due to hoarding. Probably time I stopped drinking Saki but who knows? |

| 665639 | 2008-05-05 09:29:00 | Also on National radio a few weeks ago..an article on the humble potato. The chinese govt has decided that the calories per hectare of rice compared to that of potato's is so far in favour of the spud that they have ordered millions of hectares replanted in spuds and they have become the worlds largest producer in the last 4 years. This calls for a change of diet for the chinese, which will cause a strain on other suppliers if the change is slow and the country has to import rice. |

Probably spuds for Europeans coming for the Olympic games. Plus, may be someone is hoarding it somewhere too. Good news for Aussie rice producers. |
