I was just thinking that after I posted my previous answer.

665418 2008-05-04 11:51:00 I'd say way more than 8mil. I have a laptop here, two old vaguely decommissioned crash test dummy laptops, one gaming box being constructed :drool and two at either of my works.

Both of my works have appreciable servers involved too. One has a huge 20 or so cabinet server that takes up most of the office, is that one computer? or is that 20?

One laptop per student??? Um... it only goes to decile ten you know. Maybe deep in silicon valley, but not here.

But what do you call a computer? And when do you discount a computer? Are dusty forgotten 3/486's still comps? I'm sure there are plenty hanging around. And you could call an xbox/PS a comp too.

I'd definitely say more than 8mil though.

How? Its powerful no doubt and its good good processors in it but I wouldn't call it a computer .

Are we going to call all Nintendo DS' and PSP's computers as well?

Some scientists are using PS3's in clusters instead of supercomputers. Saves them thousands. I'd call that a comp.

I'd call a cluster a computer, not just a simple console on its own .

So again, is a PSP a computer too?

665422 2008-05-05 12:45:00 I am about to count my washing machine as it does have a CPU.

Do I count my dual core CPU as two?

For those that have quad cores then that may be four.

PC should equal Personal Computer which should include anything that is capable of accepting a prrgram. This could even include cellphones for example.

I am not even inclined to make a guess.

665423 2008-05-05 15:29:00 A router can accept a program i.e. Firmware so does that make it a computer? beeswax34 (63)
665424 2008-05-05 16:03:00 OK, let me rephrase my previous thread.

Does anyone have an intelligent guess as to how many PC's (including Mac's) there are in New Zealand that are currently being used.

Just a rough guess, but it needs to be intelligent, ie counting those in homes and those in offices and factories etc.

Uh...perhaps there's ONE too many...eh? :punk
