And you can upgrade to the RTM later....if you win lotto:p

Pretty much I'm just getting feel for it as I'm expecting to be supporting Win 7 users in the new year.

In 2010 will be supporting XP/Vista/Win7/Tiger and Leopard... maybe we should add a flavour of Linux and Windows 3.1 just cover all the bases...
Eventually XP/Vista will dissolve into Win7, Tiger will sneak away and we will ignore Snow Leopard.

Can't wait for Google's O/S, it'll probably come out of Beta in 2020.

802588 2009-08-19 12:33:00 IMO Windows 7 is much, much better in every way than Windows Vista (and better in many ways than Windows XP).

I am just wondering in what ways it is better than Vista. win 7 is essentially just vista, but had the annoyances removed by default. You can however configure Vista to work fine, and remove the annoyances. I have just moved from XP to vista, as XP has become useless running under new software that I have got, and I kept encountering lots of little bugs in the software when running it under XP. I find Vista runs faster than XP, with the software I use, and even memory usage is around the same.

Its more than just removing annoyances, it actually feels like it has a different structure to it, and its actually intuitive and enjoyable to use.

Additional features such as libraries, homegroup, and other minor tweaks really distinguish 7 from Vista.

And if Vista uses the same memory as XP for you...then thats a serious problem, as due to the way Vista handles free memory, LOTS of memory should be in use all the time..

If you are in the business of supporting users I hope you are helping MSDos users as well. Or even DRdos for that matter.

FWIW -

Win7 Homegroup Networking (www.betanews.com)

and...

A free transformation pack (www.technonix.com) that will change the look of your Windows XP to Windows 7.

Blam, what else do you like about Win7?
For me, Homegroup and Libraries would not justify spending the extra $$$.

Good
Native H.264 support.
Slightly lighter system requirements

Bad
Not the big jump that it should've been; a hardened kernal Hypervisor running different levels of VM's - the lowest level one for trusted apps like NOD32 and Malwarebytes, one for semi-trusted apps like MS Office, and another that gets completely flushed on every reboot, used for web-browsing etc.

Agreed . I really like it . If we had gone from XP to 7 it would have been a very different story, we would have all been complaining about how everything had moved, the high system requirements, etc etc .

Having the heap of puss that Vista was, it was hard to get worse from there and probably 'softened the blow' and made the transition easier .

After saying that though, I would take 7 over XP any day, and it runs better on my old work PC, 2 . 4 Celeron with 1 . 25GB RAM than XP did . Definitely impressed . :)

I personally don't like Homegroups, but I like the idea, end users could set up a proper network without jumping into the technical stuff...

Also I quite like the super bar...and other minor tweaks, such as copying network profiles to a flash drive, general performance, and other "tweaks" that should have been in windows a long time ago..

All in all, Windows 7 is perfect for the typical user and the power user.

What do you mean by runs better? Things are faster, or responsive or? Most things I have read, they found Win 7 was slightly better than Vista, but XP was generally faster...
