| 666564 | 2008-05-06 09:47:00 | Checking for a good, not too expensive photo scanner this looks good www.popphoto.com The article says a street price of USD $190 Converting this to NZ$ should give me NZ$242-13 roughly ......but checking Pricespy the prices are all over NZ$400 www.pricespy.co.nz Why such a huge price difference ?? Misty   |

Thanks Speedy - that's very useful info as I don't need to scan negatives. So will probably one of the type you suggest. (though it does not identify how the same scanner can cost $242 in US --after converting the rate --but over $400 in NZ ) Misty :) |

| 666567 | 2008-05-06 10:41:00 | New Zealand prices are always higher than US prices. I have never really understood why, but some of it relates to my old hobby horse that we need a bigger population here. If you own a company and sell stuff if there are only 4 million prospects you will not sell no where near as many as if you had 10 million prospects. So you need to make more out of each sale to provide you with a living, pay the rent, advertising etc etc. You could also send them an email and ask how they justify such as price in todays world of low freight etc etc. Or tell them you are going to buy it overseas, easy to do in todays world. |

Also you are not all ways comparing like for like, some years ago I was looking at a camera which had a very attractive US price but on reading the fine print the US price excluded batteries, lens cap, and neck strap all of which was included in the NZ supplied model. | tutaenui (1724) | ||
| 666569 | 2008-05-07 09:42:00 | These are NZ prices . My mum went to HKG and I asked her to get me two lenses for my camera . I normally get stuff overseas myself or others or that I just pay import tax and get it delivered from NYC . Computer parts I find is not bad here thou . Cellphone are also not bad . . if you can use a trader on trademe or buy used etc . tutaenui, those are a death trap and illegal . The authentic shops are supposed to sell boxed versions only . . . Those other shops advertise a v low price and then say it does not incl neck strap, mem card reader or lens cap and by the time you add them on . . it cost more than other stores . Plus the warranty does not apply because its a grey (parallel import) . The shops in the USA are also known to say, even if you do not want the lens cap etc . . you are still unable to pay that low price and get the camera body . That price is only used as a decoy to get the customer into the store . Some will even say the warranty is not included and if you want one . . again you need to pay for it . Pretty common afaik in Brooklyn, NYC . They are also known to use fowl language at customers, like they pretend to get pissed off and start swearing to the customer . . . saying the customer did and said such and such, like the customer promised he/she will pay this much and he/she promised to add these parts into the deal for this price and now he/she is backing off . . . those are the tactics normally employed to get the customer saying ok . . they will go via with it . They also tend not to support credit card because of the priviledges it provides the customer . |
