802048 2009-08-18 00:05:00 Hi All.
Maryann has an 80GB hd which is partitioned into 2 x 40GB, C & D. C is nearly full & D is nearly empty.

Is there a safe way that I can remove the partition without losing any data? Thanks. PJ

802049 2009-08-18 00:36:00 Programs like Acronis Disk Director or Partition Magic can modify partitions without data lass. Be aware there is always a risk that something can go wrong, so backup important data first. inphinity (7274)
802050 2009-08-18 00:54:00 Gparted (http://gparted.sourceforge.net/)

Download the iso file, then burn as an image to a CD/DVD then boot from it.

From there, you can expand your C: drive and shrink D: drive

You could also use something such as Easeus Partition Manager:
www.partition-tool.com

But, I've found that they do not always work as they should.

As inphinity mentioned, partitioning can sometimes render an unbootable system and/or data may be lost, so backup first.

802051 2009-08-18 01:06:00 I would recommend Easeus (dw.com.com 432b) for you PJ, I think out of the lot, it's the most straight forward to use. :)

Install, run, resize as you wish, hit apply, PC will reboot, and all going well on bootup it will do the resize, and then start.

As has been said, always back up any important data before going ahead with this. I've done probably 50+ resizes like this in the last few years, never had an issue, but you cannot be too careful. The one time you decide to do it without backing up, Murphy will stick his head in the door... ;)

802053 2009-08-18 06:14:00 All taken on board. I will talk to her & see what she wants to do.

You may have noticed I have another thread running about Backups, which I am struggling with.

What do you think would happen to me if I stuff up Mrs Maryann's computer? PJ

802056 2009-08-19 00:24:00 Very unlikely that I will do anything to Her comp. I could not afford to have it fixed. Vehicle Reg in a few weeks, nearly got enough. That is first priority. PJ Poppa John (284)

Had you considered moving the "My Documents" Folder to the D: drive or partition? As D: is nearly empty so I am told.
