At least make these crimes a mandatory 10-15 year jail sentence. No parole .
That may make them think twice . If not at least it would keep the rest of us safe .

This is what you get with our system :when you can steal cars, rob houses , bash innocent people & not get sent to jail when caught.

My neighbor was a known car thief . He'd get caught & be released the next day. A month later get caught with stolen cars on his drive. Nothing happened .So of course he'd just carry on stealing cars , robbing houses , stealing from building sites . So a known local theif : cops just left him alone to do his thing , rather than put pressure on & come around & see whats he's up to & check for stolen goods.

1442775 2017-11-29 22:48:00 And what's the bet that these "crims", if caught, will be let off with light sentences coz they came from dysfunctional homes.......

Sad.

1442776 2017-12-02 19:58:00 Al Capone got caught for tax mischief, the NZ Police hierarchy's secret weapon is exceeding 104 kmh in a holiday zone.

Watch for traffic jams these holidays as the HQ policy grinds down the evil criminals lurking among us.

In my world it's the parents/caregivers/whanau support/aunty's that would be in court, then jail.

They would be held liable for what they bought into the world and the reprobate they raised.

1442778 2017-12-02 22:39:00 It will never end - brazen robbery of small shops - particularly around (South) Auckland. I saw a US documentary were a young store worker fired back with a revolver, taken from a shot/wounded police officer. Then armed police quickly swooped in on the robber's household.

Guns do work, well in US maybe. Perhaps something radical need to be done here. I think in Otara, a Indian liquor store owner chased and bashed a robber, with a bat. But the owner got arrested and charged I think for assault.

People can trash the US gun laws all they want but they give you an option to protect yourself and kill scum.
