| 1442661 | 2017-11-27 06:25:00 | I stopped smoking a month ago - it's been bloody lousy. But what has helped is the nicotine delivery substitutes I've been using - patches plus lozenges. Problem is I've had this acute headache 24/7 for all this time, no doubt attributable to the nicotine replacements I've been using. I tried a potent nurofen painkiller with added codeine for a week which didn't help at all. Yeah of course I'll get a professional opinion when I see the doctor again next week, but I wouldn't mind hearing what normal people have effectively tried and used. Hopefully no quack, magnet theory, holistic or other mumbo-jumbo suggestions. Cheers. |

| 1442664 | 2017-11-27 07:31:00 | I stopped 'Cold turkey' in 1984. I don't think there was any nicotine substitutes at the time - I certainly didn't use any. I spent considerable time sitting beside other smokers for a while... Off all the things you can do for your health, I firmly believe that stopping smoking is the best thing you can do. It does get easier (and I don't remember any headaches). I wasn't drinking coffee then either. So - all strength to your elbow, so to speak! You can do it - and you will feel so good (and virtuous) when you can say - I am a non-smoker. Hooray. And think of the money you will save. Allow yourself some 'treats' on the way - that is part of the reward. I worked in the health area - the elderly people who had smoked heavily all their life - had very poor quality of life with emphysema, bronchitis and shortness of breath, cardiac conditions - never mind the chance of getting lung cancer. I'm really trying to give you lots of encouragement. You CAN do it! :) |

| 1442666 | 2017-11-27 09:57:00 | Nicotine acts as a vasoconstrictor, if it is the source of your headaches then a vasodilator should help. Perhaps try one of these foods? www.iifym.com And good on you for quitting. |

Except Zippity - coffee is one of the things I temporarily gave up to avoid the "triggers". Thanks again for the positive inputs from you folks. Its a trying time. But still looking for something to ease the headache, something which excludes decapitation. |

| 1442669 | 2017-11-27 21:02:00 | Greg, Nicotine is one of the most powerful drugs that you will ever take :( I was being serious when I said drink coffee. I don't know your age, or how long you have been smoking, but watch the condition of your gums over the next few weeks. Nicotine hinders/restricts blood circulation. I'll bet that your gums are probably white at the moment. As the effects of the nicotine in your body wear off, your gums will redden and probably start bleeding :( |

I'm 56, and been smoking since age 15. My usual intake was a 30g packet per week, but was up to 50g's. I'm now drinking coffee again - double strength, and I'll probably buy myself a Nespresso device with the cash I'm saving  Although having said that I'm now drinking a litre of grapefruit juice a day, on top of the almost gallons of other liquids. Another strange symptom I'm having are some very vivid dreams, some of which are so almost real that I wake myself up talking. |
