1442353 2017-11-21 23:35:00 One of the biggest news items in The Washington Post and other publications, such as the (UK) The Independent, is that this is being done now. As I understand it- this means that for USA customers of Internet Providers such as Verizon and AT&T will get content determined to some extent by the providers. For instance some sites may be barred and some others get preferential treatment including the speed of transmission.

As our laws are different, and we don't use any of the providers mentioned, then it appears that there will be no adverse effects to we New Zealanders. Is my understanding correct please?

1442354 2017-11-22 00:11:00 I am worried that these companies control portions of the backbone and infrastructure so will not apply this to individual sites but rather whole sections of the net. DeSade (984)
1442355 2017-11-22 00:18:00 I partly understand what you are saying, DeSade. In such circumstances I would think that large countries and groupings such as the European Union will tend to set up separate structures to counter and/or mitigate this. Misty (368)
1442356 2017-11-22 00:40:00 I'd wager we dont have true net neutraility in NZ anyway
NZ ISPs can & do block sites (via DNS) . As expected .
NZ ISPs do give themselves the right to throttle bandwidth : so they can choose what gets priority

and (tinfoil hat) Id bet ISPs rig things to give good results from popular speed test sites :-)
