1441764 2017-11-10 02:01:00 My laptop has given up the ghost - it won't even start up - and I would like a recommendation for a PC repairer in Auckland, hopefully near Onehunga.

Thanks for your help.

But some diagnosis before you do?
Tried a new power supply? They die all the time.

If not power, hmm, and nothing at all, usually indicates motherboard. Not a good part to replace in laptops...

You could pull the HDD and retrieve your stuff first, in any case, if not already backed up.

1441766 2017-11-10 04:41:00 Thanks for your suggestion. Pctek, but, unfortunately, it won't even start up on the battery. I'll have to have a look in the yellow pages. Roscoe (6288)
1441767 2017-11-10 06:33:00 You could try www.justlaptops.co.nz , they have a shop on Great South Road in Penrose and possibly could help. Bryan (147)
1441768 2017-11-10 20:42:00 Is the battery removable?
Try removing it and don't connect the power adapter, then press and hold the power button for at least 30 seconds.
Then try with just the power adapter and see if it turns on.

1441769 2017-11-11 23:13:00 I would go to PB Technologies, Station Rd, Penrose..
Repair shop is on site so you can have a good discussion there.
It is near the rail overbridge.

1441770 2017-11-12 21:45:00 Assuming its not something simple like the power pack...

chances are its going to need a board level repair (fix onboard power circuitry) . I can pm you one in Penrose if needed
Expect around $250-$300 for that level of repair

I only know of 2 laptop repair specialists in Ak who will do motherboard component level of repair, most PC Repairers will just write off or say replace motherboard

1441771 2017-11-12 21:56:00 How old is it? Is it wise use of your money to repair it? Ofthesea (14129)

Thanks for your suggestions. I went to the computer shop in the Royal Oak Mall and they confirmed it was the power pack. A new one cost $49 and now we are back up again.

Thank you for all your recommendations. Very helpful.
