2017-11-06 22:35:00 | HI all When W10 came out Word as deleted, to get it you had to buy MS Office. Now we have WordPad to write messages & letters. Are they the same? Or ,is there something better than WordPad that is compatible to MS? thank. PJ

2017-11-06 22:49:00 | Wordpad is a cut down version There are free office suites, Libreoffice is one. There are also paid Office suites, similar to MS Office. Softmaker 2018 which is due to be released is one of them. But its about $144 or something to buy it

2017-11-06 22:55:00 | Previous versions of windows never had "Microsoft Word" As a default installed program anyway. Apart from W7 where OEM's could install the free version of Office Starter which was a cut down version of Word & Excel containing adverts. (replacement for the old "Works"). There are several Free office suites, one of the payed ones I sometimes put in is Ability Office https://www.ability.com/ As long as you have a Microsoft account (free) you can also use the online version, but it is again cut down a lot products.office.com Or even Google Doc's

Myself, I use old Microsoft Word 2003, also find Open Office and LibreOffice handy as well, last two are free of course. Gencom are part of NZ Society of Genealogists Inc. lurking. | 1441666 | 2017-11-07 01:54:00 | Wordpad was always in Windows. Word never was. Ever. It was always part of MS Office, which some manufacturers would install as a trial version onto PCs and laptops. |

2017-11-07 07:27:00 | Never used Wordpad, even tho it's always been in Microsoft. Used their Notepad to construct Stylish in the early days tho. This w8.1 lappy has Office2007 and MS keeps telling me to update to a later ver.
