| 1441380 | 2017-10-30 20:42:00 | A couple of days ago Microsoft did an overnight upgrade to the windows 10 on my computer. When I opened the machine the following morning I found that things had been radically changed. To list a few, the start up menu which was normally accessed by clicking on the icon at the bottom left of the screen was now permanently open. To access the desktop now requires a right click on this icon to find desktop. Files which were in use, I lodged on the desktop, but these no longer appear and have resisted all attempts to reinstate them. I now have two access them through windows file manager. Most annoying of all is that all windows, browsers, word, file manager and et cetera are now permanently maximised in the monitor. I have yet to be able to reduce them using the icon to the top right of any screen. I tried to restore the system to before the upgrade, but was unable to do so because zone alarm anti-virus is in operation. Now, zone alarm seems to have been banished from the taskbar and I can only find it listed in the uninstall feature in Windows settings. It no longer appears under program files on the C drive. Consequently, I am unable to access Zone Alarm to turn it off and can thus not use the restore function. I wonder if anyone has any clues as to how I can restore things? |

Windows may have tried to remove it while upgrading, but because of the way AV's work it may have put up a fight and not done so. Suggest you try to get a uninstaller program for Zone alarm and see if it can rip out whats left of it. Then maybe the OS will allow to be fixed or work correctly. This is meant to be a download link for their removal tool. www.techsupportall.com as well as www.majorgeeks.com |

| 1441382 | 2017-10-30 22:40:00 | Giving indications that Zonealarm is not fully compatible with this latest version . . . and has had many issues after various Win10 updates/upgrades, going on for over a year (From google) If they still cant get it right, honestly its time to ditch Zone Alarm . The new version is supposedly Creators compatable . So you could try installing the new version over the top, then get rid of it forever . Chances are , its left you with one hell of a mess to sort out . as a last resort, download the latest Win10 from MS, burn to DVD or USB , reload over the top |

| 1441383 | 2017-10-30 23:05:00 | Thank you for both replies. Zone Alarm reported that the version I had installed was not upgradable and they advised me to uninstall, download a new version and reinstall. All now done and everything is back to normal. Many thanks to you both for your advice. Incredible that so simple a thing could cause so much chaos! | Guillaume (16361) | ||
