HiFi was almost conquered in the 1970's until enthusiasts started listening to their HiFi equipment rather than listening to the music which is what the whole exercise was supposed to be about. Wow, flutter, rumble, hiss, pre-echo, hum, phase, and all sorts of other esoteric measurements replaced the enjoyment of the music that Bach, Beethoven, Mozart and many others, interpreted by contemporary musicians provided for us. The 60s and 70s were the golden age, and vinyl still rules. Deutsche Grammophon Gesellschaft were the pinnacle of sound recording industry and all efforts since then sound thin and manipulated.
