1442644	2017-11-29 04:23:00	Have always understood that it was in 1959 when Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and Big Bopper died in a air crash. Buddy's music was the epitome to me. Once a fortnight on Radio Luxembourg I listened when they would play one of his songs. The next week it was one of Elvis, I think. "Peggy Sue, Peggy Sue" - just great stuff!	Misty (368)

Aug 27, 2016 Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, The Big Bopper Known as The Day the Music Died, Feb . 3, 1959, was a tragic day for rock ‘n’ roll . Three hall-of-famers met their deaths in Iowa on a stormy winter night . Buddy Holly, 22, the Big Bopper (J . P . Richardson), 29, and Ritchie Valens, 18, perished along with the pilot of their plane . Patsy Cline Patsy Cline was a bright star of country’s first wave, famous for her romantic country ballads like “Back in Baby’s Arms . ” She and three others died when their Piper PA-24 Comanche crashed in Tennessee in 1963 . Otis Redding Soul singer Otis Redding was only 26 when he and four members of his Bar-Kays band died in 1967 when their plane crashed into Lake Monoma near Madison, Wis . Despite his young age, Redding left behind a sizeable legacy of rock and soul hits, most succesfully “Sittin on the Dock of the Bay . ” He had recorded the song three days before his death . Jim Croce Singer-songwriter Jim Croce, whose singles "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown" and "Time in a Bottle" were both number one hits, died at age 29 in 1973 on the day his single "I Got a Name" was released, along with four others, when their chartered plane failed to gain enough altitude after taking off in Natchitoches, La . The pilot and copilot survived the crash, but were critically burned, according to Michael L . Cox, a spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety in Austin . Mr . Nelson, 45 years old, and the other victims were flying to Dallas aboard Mr . Nelson's plane for a New Year's Eve concert at the Park Suite Hotel in Dallas . The plane crashed in a wooded area near De Kalb, about 35 miles west of Texarkana . Mr . Cox said the plane was on a flight from Guntersville, Ala . , where Mr . Nelson's band had played a concert the night before . It was seen circling De Kalb erratically shortly after 5 P . After falling ill from spraying his garden with pesticide, Porcaro died . However, it was not the weed killer that killed him . (1995) Selena (not to be confused with Selena Gomez) was shot by the president of her fan club . (1997) Another musician who was cited as killing himself was Michael Hutchence . He was found hanging from a belt in his hotel room in Syndey, Australia . According to Paula Yates, his wife, he also could have died from autoerotic asphyxiation . (1997) This one is not a traditional rock star death . Spirit Guitarist Randy California died when he was caught in a riptide off the coast of Molokai, Hawaii while trying to save his son . He was able to push his son close enough to shore to escape, but California, sadly, drowned . (1997) Jeff Buckley, at the age of 30, died from drowning in Memphis’s Wolf River Harbor . According to the coroner’s report, he was completely sober . (2004) It’s not too uncommon for rock stars to be shot . But there’s a difference when the star is shot on stage, and there’s a bigger difference when shot at point-blank range . This is what happened to Dimebag Darrell . (2009) Jerry Fuchs, the drummer for Maserati, died when he fell down an elevator shaft . Apparently, his clothes got caught when he tried to jump out of the lift that was stuck between two floors . (2009) This death is like something out of the beginning of a crime-drama . While on tour, Taylor Mitchell took a break from rehearsal to go on a quick hike in the Cape Breton Highlands National Park in Nova Scotia . On her hike, she was attacked by three wild dogs and later died in the hospital . In all of recorded history, it looks like she was the first to die from an attack like this . (2010) Mike Edwards of the Electric Light Orchestra died in a bizarre accident involving a 300kg hay bale . The hay bale collided with his van and killed him . (2011) Mikey Welsh, bassist from Weezer, died from a drug overdose . So what was so bizarre about this one? Not the way he died, but the circumstances around it . Over a Twitter post, Mikey predicted where and when his death would take place after dreaming it . (2014) Samong Traisattha from the black metal band Surrender of Divinity was stabbed in his home by a fan . Allegedly, the fan stabbed him because he was not the true Satanist he was claiming to be .
