1441702 2017-11-07 05:53:00 Handbrake may do what you want, the linux version has a couple extra features from the windows one, at least it did ages ago when I checked last. Namely the ability to rip DVDs but it may have dependencies.
DVD Shrink was ling ago abandoned by it's developers and never made it to linux as far as I know.

But I only play with linux occasionally so don't take my suggestions as anything more than that. 		dugimodo (138)

1 . Longmire (awaiting final season 5 - c'mon, Netflix!!!)
2 . Person Of Interest (know what's gonna happen - sad and yet I don't want to finish it now)
3 . NCIS (what can I say?!? )
4 . Burned (finished it - wow!)
5 . Nikita (found this by accident - it's good Spy-v-Spy stuff!)
6 . Law And Order SVU (not as good as the original shows without the SVU - but . . . . well, OK I guess)
7 . Blue Bloods (at S4/E21 so far)
8 . Mysteries Of Laura (watched it up to the last season/episode . . . . now what? I dunnow!)
9 . Madam Secretary (very good . . . . really VERY good! Love it)
10 . Fawlty Towers (Basil does it ever-r-y time . . . . love the whole group - especially Manuel!)

I've installed Audacity and I guess I have to get LAME (?) too? Is LAME needed for Audacity to export into MP3s on Linux?

As far as a player . . . . I've got one for streaming radio that I got and like (new to me on Linux) -

Pithos has a list of my favorite stations from (huh? somewhere?!?) . . . . . maybe Google . . . . . . that I am amazed that it appeared here in Linux! I DO have SYNC turned on, so maybe that's it . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . hmmmmmmmm .

Just do as Kame suggested, install ubuntu-restricted-extras and gstreamer1.0-plugins-{good,bad,ugly} and you should be good to go. LAME is included in the extras package. 		Rod J (451)
