1442122 2017-11-17 04:17:00 This time though it was "the Spark IT department" talking about "your internet connection". Makes a change from Microsoft.

Leaving aside that it is such an obvious scam, the fact that the phone rings, you answer and there is a several second pause before someone comes on the line is a major giveaway.

I had a similar experience a few years ago and it turned out to be the surgeon who had operated on me a few days earlier checking on how I was getting on. Fortunately I wasn't actively rude, just a bit reserved and suspicious sounding until the truth was revealed.

1442125 2017-11-17 21:26:00 These Indian Scammers who make these scam phone calls are giving the hardworking and honest Indians who live among us a bad name. I had two Indian gentlemen come to my house to install fibre. They did a good job and knew what they were doing. They had been in touch with me as they wanted to come in and get the job done sooner. I could have easily mistaken them for scammers and hung up on them. I was pleased to get the job done sooner.

I have had a call from a lady who claims to be my Account Manager and wants me to make online investments. I keep hanging up.

1442127 2017-11-17 23:08:00 You are absolutely right. As I said, the usual giveaway is the big pause before anyone speaks after you answer the phone. Tony (4941)
1442128 2017-11-17 23:45:00 Received a call from an Indian gentleman yesterday, the caller id was 054343433 so I knew before answering that the con was coming. I think he was a newbee as he spoke very slowly, and said something about there being a problem with my computer. I was ready to string him along, but he hung up when I said "I don't think so". Where's the fun in that! Sirhc (15872)

Hmm, I think it's a bit racist.
I mean do you then tar all white people with the same brush because they are predominately the Ponzi schemers?

Except Bobh was not "tarring them all with the same brush". The quote was "These Indian scammers...", i.e. that particular bunch of people and specifically excluding "hardworking and honest" Indians. My original post described "The old Indian IT department scam" because unfortunately I at least have never had one of these calls that has not been apparently of Indian origin.

Racist would have been something like "All these Indians are the same, ripping off the rest of us...". I think it is important when making racism accusations that we have clearly identified racist activity otherwise it just justifies those who say it is all PC rubbish. [/RANT]
