Did anyone see that, I'm just confused on what grounds the police were going to prosecute the lady driver after the drunk male ran himself off the road? The lady had to borrow $5k as she was refused legal aid.....no doubt the wrong skin colour however, I am just amazed this woman was so frightened when she knew she was innocent. I mean, if the police tried something like that with me, I would be like, bring it on, and I'll after charges dropped or swashed etc, I'd going for recompense etc.... |

| 668590 | 2008-05-12 23:15:00 | Didn't surprise me at all. My son exchanged some verbal abuse with a neighbour a couple of years ago. Neighbour was known for stirring. Neighbour then called the cops to report my son was performing domestic violence. Cops turn up, ask to see girlfriend, my son initially wouldn't let them in, girlfriend was standing right behind him at the door saying she was fine. They then kicked the door fully open and pepper sprayed both of them. Then 24 hours later they returned and arrested him for Obstruction and Intimidation (of the neighbour). We went down to the lcoal lockup to collect him and I had a small argument with the chief AO in charge, and said perhaps they shouldn't employ small, frightened children. (Pepper sprayer was a very petite girl). I found out later they were releasing him but then put in back in for another 2 hours as a result of my comment. Anyway it dragged on for quite some months, we hired a high profile lawyer and surprise, surprise, once the actual trial came round the cop got up and announced they were dropping all charges. |

Cops decided it was her fault - they didn't even touch cars - and she was told she didn't qualify for legal aide for some reason. After she borrowed money for a lawyer the cops then dropped the charges. |

| 668594 | 2008-05-13 00:27:00 | Absolutely disgraceful behavior from the police IMO..However I dont think she helped herself too much being a victim. If I was in her shoes now, I would be making the biggest noise in NZ making sure my local MP was behind me! |
